  • If you fancy indian style kebabs, then you must try Raavi Kebab House on Drummond St (near Euston Station). Cheap as chips, yet serving arguably London's finest kebabs. Have a look at the reviews:

Eds for an American Diner, not expensive though neither what I would call cheap, and also not near the museums I'm afraid:

If you're there on a Monday, Slug and Lettuce have 50% off all food and are found all over the place.

If you are in Soho then there are a couple of really cheap places:

Maoz - Vegetarian - Gorgeous Falafel, as much salad as you can pile on inc sauces plus Home Made Pitta - eat in - less than a fiver. Very Healthy - drinks extra

Moolis - Indian wraps - eat in - my favourite is the Goat with Pomegranate Salsa - around a fiver.

Benitos Hat - Mexican - (Covent Garden and Goodge Street) - Gorgeous Burrito's filled with Pork (or chicken, steak), Rice, Black Beans, Salad, Guacamole - Eat in - Around £6.00

Soho Joe - eat in Pizzas at £7.00 - always busy.

I would used Pizza Hut between 3-5pm the Happy Hour Adults each and soft drink for £5 each and under 12's eat free so family of 4 can eat for £10 including drinks
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)
  • We were in London last month and had breakfast and lunch at Henrys Cafe Bar, Piccadily and it is really good value for money ( not London prices at all). They also have a place in Covent Garden.

Ah Ed's Diner. Is it a nice place. Not the cheapest place though, but they do have the nicest ever milkshakes! (1 is enough for 2 people, especially kids)

You can get a tastecard free trial for a month and use that at Planet Hollywood - the kids will love it. But it's not worth it for full price! And you have to phone in advance to book a table (I booked 2 hours in advanced). If you do get a Tastecard it's really good in London, they have an app for phones (if you have a smart phone anyway) but check on the terms and conditions before you use it.
  • The Stockpot just off Haymarket is great value for money if you are in the Piccadilly area. British/Italian style food, cheap and cheerful. There used to be one in Kings Road that I ate in regularly for lunch & this Haymarket one is great if you're going to the theatre. Also good for breakfast if you are staying at the LSE accommodation in Northumberland Avenue.
Ate 2 meals there when had a weekend in London with my friend earlier in the year- she couldn't believe how cheap it was right in the heart of the West End and its nice as well. Not fancy but welcoming & bustling.

    Set menu lunch 2 courses £5.95, 3 courses £7.90
    Set menu dinner 2 courses £7.95, 3 courses £9.90

English breakfast from £4.95. All day English breakfast including toast & tea or coffee £5.95.

They only take cash though, no cards.

The stockpot and Chelsea Kitchen are good.

This Indian veg restaurant in Chapel Market Islington offers all you can get for about £3.99

    http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/restaurants/restaurant-1347.php

Brick lane has loads of Indian restaurants all plying for trade.

There's a Wagammas near the British Museum.

    http://www.wagamama.com/locations/showlocation/536

You can get Lamachun - Turkish style pizza for @ £1.50 in the Turkish restaurants - loads of them in Dalston, Stoke Newington and Green Lanes but maybe a bit far.

Then the chains that have been mentioned that you can get vouchers for.

Giraffe is a good one for kids.

Hey Vintner great minds think a like!

We were typing at the same time!:rotfl:

I had my first date with my son's Dad at the stockpot (or maybe it was the Chelsea Kitchen - it was nearly thirty years ago!:rotfl:)

No it was The Stockpot on the Kings Road - has it gone then?!

  • You don't say Central London though, maybe that's why?

I didnt say anywhere so maybe thats why.. Though with the OP saying they are willing to travel maybe people should about that rather then some dross regulaqr chain restaurant.
