I am taking my kids to London just after Christmas and I am looking for reccomendations of cheap places to eat. We have breakfast sorted at the hotel, but I am looking for places to haev lunch or dinner. They do fancy an american style diner but after that we don't mind at all. We will mostly be around the science, natual history and national museaums, though will travel

Cheap & London do not really go together but :
This worked for us http://www.pierinopastapizzarestaurant.co.uk/
I think there's some diner type places nearer Gloucester Road0 -
McDonalds. Cheap, American, not really a diner but two out of three ain't bad as Meat Loaf would tell you.0

Apologies if you already knew, but don't buy lunches in the museums. They are not value for money at all .....think £4.50 for a small cheese baguette.Tea/Coffee are reasonable for London prices.

You probably won't be able to take two steps in central London without passing a chain restaurant. Pizza Express/ASK/Bella Italia/Subway/McDonalds/Wetherspoons/Pret a Manger/Garfunkels are numerous wherever you go. You will probably be able to find a Tesco Express to pick up snacks/sandwiches etc. There will be sandwich bars that will make stuff up for you fresh. There will be places selling pizza by the slice.
In short, you will not be stuck for somewhere reasonably priced to eat! Just check the displayed menus or the special offer boards outside.
If I had to make a recommendation then I would suggest Maxwells in Covent Garden for the diner experience (think TGIs but nicer). I would always avoid the Rainforest Cafe, I found it overpriced and the food quality dreadful.
Have a great time.0 -

I would keep an eye out for 2 for 1 dining offers, always plenty straight after christmas prezzo, pizza express, etc all in convent garden area.
I second maxwells, they do a pre theatre dinner menu (will need to ask for it dont advertise it very much) which is off a set list think its about £10 adult starter or dessert + main and kids meals about £6 - you have to eat by a certain time to get this cant remeber the times, but if your in convent garden just pop in and ask/book yourself a table, food is very good0
