Refunding onto same payment card

but back on subject as stated before with a DC refund if the card is not available then the retailer can refund by any means they seem fit. read the agreement you get with your DC and you will see this.
all mine says on the subject is15.3 Using your card
.....
15.3.10 When we receive an acceptable refund voucher we will pay the
amount of the refund to your account.0 -

yes which means refund to the card so it can go back onto your account, but if this is not available then the retailer can decide to refund in vouchers.
you have a choice of accepting the vouchers and then contacting the companies HQ for a company cheque.
i recently did this with Argos and had no problem getting the cheque.
Also as a retailer i have my own gift vouchers, but also i purchase a load of HSV which i will issue, but it is amazing on how many will just opt for our own vouchers rather than HSV0 -

Nooo - it just says that is they get a valid refund request, they will process the refund into your account. It doesn't say I must have any item bought with the card refunded back onto my card.
And I maintain than a gift card / gift voucher / credit note can't possibly be an acceptable method of refund.0 -
these are LEGAL methods of refunding of which a retailer can chose to refund you with.
just speak to TS and you will find out.
OFT would disagree with that...Credit notes
Customers do not have to accept a credit note instead of a full refund, repair or replacement if the item is faulty; see Your customers' rights on faulty goods. Where a customer is entitled to a full refund, repair or replacement you should not mislead them into thinking that a credit note is their only option.0 -
A gift voucher/ gift card is NOT a credit note
again, I still fail to see the difference. There may be small technical differences but for all intent & purpose they're the same thing - unless you can show me something that suggests otherwise?
A gift card is just a fancy gift voucher, which is just a fancy term for a credit note.0 -

But a credit note can only be used in the 1 shop/brand but a gift card/voucher can be used in multi brand stores.
you can physically purchase a gift card/ voucher you cant purchase a credit note.
they are two different items. call TS and you will find out regardless to what you say or think.0 -

That's nonsense - even if true, would only apply to a handful of stores.
More importantly...
Citizens Advice BureauCredit notes
When you complain about goods, the trader may offer you a credit note. A credit note allows you to return the goods and buy something else for the same value.
If you have the right to a refund, repair, replacement or compensation (see under heading Your rights when things go wrong) you don't have to accept a credit note instead, although you may choose to do so. You may also choose to accept a credit note where you don't have any of these rights.
If you accept a credit note, you cannot change your mind later and get a refund or compensation, even if you had been entitled to it.
A credit note does not have to take any particular form. It may be offered as a gift voucher and it can also have conditions attached to it. You may have to use it within a given time limit.
If you are thinking of accepting a credit note, check the conditions on it and make sure that the trader has goods that you want to buy.
You cannot insist on having a credit note, if the trader doesn't want to give you one
ergo, a gift voucher is a form of credit note - which you do not have to accept.0 -
trouble is consumers have no idea how retail works when it comes to merchant service agreements. how would consumers feel if they went into argos with the dc/cc and was told sorry we cant take them now all because we were refunding on cards that were not used for original purchases so our merchant service provided cancelled our agreement. so we can only take cash now.
That's because it has nothing to do with them. What has an agreement with the retailer and the card processor got to do with the customer. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
