I think I have been part the way along this journey for the past few months - and yes it already is emotional - I have a feeling it's not going to get any less so for a while! But it needs to be done - not sure I will get to the point of buying a gorgeous watch (and it is gorgeous!!) but am seriously considering buying an i mac - not becuase I need it but just becuase it would make my uni work more pleasant and look good in my new study!!!

Hypno, I didnt cook mushroom strogonoff for a couple of years...... how could I have forgotten one of my favourite dishes. Then I did it a couple of weeks ago and it took literally 15 minutes. OH loved it and so I have been cooking it once a week since. On my own until after christmas so decided I need to be organised and cook for myself and nothing simpler. I used to love fishfinger butties with ketchup when I was little and before I was a veggie.

Judi... my finger just slipped on the Argos reserve button for an ipad. I need to go and collect it tomorrow. It is my christmas present to myself. And the only present that I have bought so far this year!

Had I not bought the watch yesterday, I would have bought an ipad. But I figured that I actually wanted the watch more - that it will bring a smile to my face every day. I have a netbook that still works perfectly well, so I will stick with that until it decides it is too old or slow for what I want it to do, and THEN will buy the ipad or whatever is in its place at the time.

I have been humming and ahhing over the ipad for ages. In order to justify it I have bought it as a "joint" Christmas present for me and OH. Although I will use it more. I have never bought myself anything so expensive. My debt is all mortgage related..... long story and so I just decided it was time that I had something that was for me but I wanted something practical. I dont wear jewellery and watches but if I had one like that I would smile every day.

Mushroom Strogonoff (my made up version)
Boil rice as per Delia Smith (ie, one cup of rice, add to frying pan with a little olive oil, coat rice in oil. add two cups of boiling water and pinch of salt. bring to the boil. lower to the lowest setting, stir three times, put lid on and leave alone for 15 minutes - do not touch at all)
Meanwhile, in another frying pan add olive oil, add one sliced onion and fry off until golden, Add some sliced peppers (sometimes I add fresh chillies if I have them in at this point) and fry off, add 1 tsp chilli powder (I actually use 2 but like it hot) 1 tsp paprika and coat the onion in the spices, cook for a couple of minutes. Add mushrooms (I use button and chestnut but can use anything that you like). Add a splash of red wine if you have it. Fry off a bit longer, add creme fraiche and a dash of lemon juice. When rice is finished serve, put mushroom mixture on the top and serve with garlic bread and a glass of red wine...... yummy. I am a bit of a throw it together cook so I bet others do it differently but that is my version. Sometimes I add garlic at the onion stage sometimes I dont.
Hope that helps. Oh and it is very cheap.

Glad about that. I am always open for suggestions on different versions. I love cooking and experimenting.
