I feel an i-mac winging it's way to me soon!!! I do get student discount - so a little bit MSE - Isn't it???
Oh yes. The key is that if it is something you want, that you will use, that you will get the money's worth from, then it is something you can justify buying.
Then you go through the cashback sites, compare the discount there with the student discount you would get, do a bit of research to see if there is a new model coming out imminently that will make the current model cheaper in a couple of months time, and once you have done all your research, got the best deal going, you can sort out paying for it and having it.
This MSE journey is not about going without everything and keeping yourself wanting things you cannot have all the time. Yes, there are elements of that, because there is only so much money to go around, and there have to be priorities, but it is about being savvy as much as anything.
For me, my money went on either debts, or the childrens skiing for so long - I did spend large amounts of money on things that others would look at and say they weren't very MSE.....but they were paid for doing MSE things, and cashback sites etc were utilised to the full, so I got the best deal I could, and sacrificed elsewhere.
Now the time has come to spend some of the same processes on ME. And you will do the same for YOU. Just research for the best deal!

 I think that is one of the most shocking things I have ever read on here .
Nice watch missus, and yes, you're worth it.
Got me thinking of what I would like, I have mum's engagement ring and mine. I had a lovely modern design done incorporating the 5 diamonds but didn't pursue it. That will be my challenge for 2012 - a, to find the design (is on an email somewhere) and b, to find the money to have it made.
Random comment - Mr GG just been walking about looking for his phone. Which he was holding in his hand . Even by his standards that was impressive.

Morning all! Ended up much later to bed than planned as some friends popped round on their way home from the cinema :rotfl: Still, it was a lovely couple of hours and worth staying up for.
Today is Christmas cards and the rest of the wrapping - then having my nails done this afternoon....got a local equivalent of the groupon thing, so it is a very good price and they will last until after Christmas I hope. Other than that, nothing planned - it will be a chilled weekend I hope ahead of a frantic run up to Christmas!! I really need to get into the gym today and tomorrow too to work off the chocolate orange I am currently consuming for my breakfast

Chocolate orange comes under the category of one of your 5 a day anyway.

Yes, I am being tickled GG - they do some very good offers and I have used a couple to get things as treats that I wouldn't usually get. I can't justify having my nails done professionally all the time, when I can just slap on a bit of varnish at home, but when there are silly offers around, it is very nice to make use of them!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. We didn't have fish finger sandwiches, but we did have chip butties - bliss! Chocolate orange for breakfast also sounds, I'm trying to think of a good-enough word ..... oh well, **fantastic** will have to do
I love the description of the mse process of shopping, hypno, spot on - mind you, if I manage to do *all* of that, I'm very proud of myself! :rotfl:
I too am wrapping a few bits and bobs today, but at least its all bought, so quite relaxing really, then off out tonight so they can be opened up!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Loves the new watch! I think there's a point when you become debt free when you have to mark it with something tangible to say you're beyond that point now. Mine was a lovely new fountain pen!
Enjoy getting your nails done -I never have success with mine as they chip no matter what I do!0 -
Thanks Urg
There was a lot more attached to my watch purchase than just being debt free, although that formed part of it, of course, because it has been an integral part of my life for so long.
It does mark the end of a lot of emotional stuff that I have been carrying for so long - stuff that I have been working on for some time, and that I finally realise I have dealt with.
It is, indeed, a true "moving on" gift to myself. It is very special as a result because it marks such an important time in my life.
Life truly did begin at 40 for me. I'm very much looking forward, not back, and living for the day. Finally :TSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0
