    Do you live in a castle Cardew ?????????? I used to think we had a large inglenook here in our Welsh cottage, but you can do a pig roast on that one !!!!!!!!

    You've got the very same Montrose as me!.
    Can you remember the exact model it is?, as my operating tool has cracked off along the left peg downwards - meaning a can't riddle my grate any more.
    Really appreciate your help as i've had no joy trying to replace it for a year now!.

    It's a Montrose II, that's all I know. I never riddle my grate anyway, just prod it with a thin poker from underneath, works much better for me. Why not use an adjustable spanner instead?

    I already do the same as you really, but really could do with riddling when been bedding coal!.
    Plus it'd be a big help having the tool to carry out the ash pan.
