Help me understand ebay buyers

  • I think that, at the end of the day, the 'average' person isn't that intelligent and just assumes that eBay will be the cheapest as 'you always get bargains in auctions'. People are generally lazy and won't go to the 'hassle' of searching around for the cheapest option.

This baffles me too. I was trying to get some Disney Pixar DVDs for DD's christmas stocking, they are mostly £6.99 on amazon/play etc, NEW, free delivery. On ebay they are selling for at least that much plus postage for 2nd hand copies?!

a lot of my income is online - so paypal money. I usually have more money in my PP account than I do in my bank account or cash, so I buy online even if it means paying a little more

Im also really lazy - so if buying from you means i dont have to go into town then i'd pay more! :rotfl:

It's a brave person who keeps high balances in Paypal! If your account was to ever get restricted you wouldn't be able to touch your money for 180 days. And of course you are earning zero interest on your money.

I withdraw our balance last thing each night and it's the first thing I do in the morning. I still worry that I should perhaps have something automated for when it reaches a certain balance.

I am always seen on here as defending paypal- yet even I never leave more than a small balance in there overnight. Anything more than a tenner comes straight out.

I reckon it is the 'hide your money' brigade myself, people who eBay on the side and spend what they have on Paypal so it never touches their bank accounts and affect benefit payments.

It is the reason that shop vouchers always sell for more than face value, as they use PP fund to buy them and go to the shops, hence again, the money is not touching their bank accounts.

Not everyone is doing this BTW - but lots of people are.

I've always kept around £100 balance in my paypal account just to cover any refunds etc. I've done this for over 10 years. As long the as the amount is an amount if held you could live without for a while can't see the problem. There's always a bit too much paranoia around this issue.

That's a bit of a daily mail myth. The DWP don't have or ask to have access to your bank accounts. The only way money in your bank account could trigger some thing is if you had a huge amount do the tax you were paying on interest caused some alarm bells on the HMRC. This would have to be an amount that the dwp would probably realise by the fact you were buying Porche a week so rather obvious. In all likelihood you would need to be more worried about the fraud squad than the DWP
