Help me understand ebay buyers

I really don't understand.
I'm selling an item on ebay for £13 inc postage.
You can walk into most supermarkets and get the same item for about £8. Amazon and a lot of other online retailers, big and small, are selling for about £10 inc postage.
Yet I have sold 57 of these items since Friday. Does not compute!
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy for the sales but why do people choose to pay more money? Am I tapping into the non "shop around" culture the UK seems to have? Is this where the "ebay is cheap" idea comes into its own? Why are people buying from me... :rotfl:

Some people believe they are getting a bargain from an auction site and forget to use other common search sites.
It may be that you offer same day or next day posting which might be attractive to the buyer.

Perhaps it's because paypal funding is used? Buyers' forget that paypal funds are real money!0

People think "its on eBay, so it must be cheap..."
I get the same people at car auctions buying there "cos its cheaper..." but they don't realise that they push the price up. When some auictioneers see it's a private person bidding on a car, he will make the bids up to make the car expensive lol.0 -
Not knowing what it is.
I live a 42 mile round trip from a main supermarket - yes really!
I work 18 hours a day.....yes, give me a second to click that online mouse and I would glady pay double.
I pay someone to walk my dog, clean my house, cut my grass, feed my chickens......yes, my time is money. I cannot go out and do these things for less than I would pay someone else to.
It's not what you pay. For me, it's what I save. Priceless

ebay is pretty much my default to go when i need something
im not spending money on fuel and parking to trudge around to see if the shops have it , if its a dearer item i google /amazon it0 -
Same reason they buy stuff sold in poundland for 99p and £1.99 or £2.99 postage.
Daft sods. But if going to the store is a 20 mile round trip and a parking charge it
maybe cheaper than going to get one.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I get the fact that the store could be miles out.
I get the fact that people are busy.
But to go straight to ebay? Amazon is big enough, and considered cheap enough, to be a player you reach for, surely.
BTW - now up to 82, so I'm really not complaining!!!!!!
It's been a powerful lesson for me in the importance of free p+p. The next listing down is cheaper than me (item + p&p charge total is 52p cheaper than me) all other things in listings and sellers are equal, and they have only sold 24 in the same time I've sold 82. As I'm the top of the ranking, people are buying from me - not them.
Again does not compute. I'd go for the cheaper player everytime - it's not hard to glance at 2 listings on the same screen and do a quick sum.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I have to admit that i do sometimes search for items with free postage only.
Especially if there are lots of the same or similar items.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
