Ebay would need to be 10% lower than Amzon before I'd buy, the buyer risk is higher plus I get 1% back on Amazon CC and I'm on Amazon Prime for free next day delivery.

If I am in a shop, I used a bar-code scanning app to check online prices. If it's £s cheaper online, I just order via the iPhone.

Maybe you look like a better seller than your nearest competitor.

    I second that.

I wanted an item around the £30 mark and had a look around ebay. The cheapest one was from a seller using multiple BINS on brand new items but not registered as a business. The item (trying not to say what here) is one that could easily be mis sold and this seller pretending to be just a private seller had some silly terms and poor stars for both p and p and communication . I decided that whilst I knew I would be covered by paypal it really wasn't worth the risk of dealing with such a numptie and I chose to buy from a properly registered business selelr with a proper refund policy clearly outlined. It cost me a little more price wise but I suspect it will have saved me a lot in the long term.

Again does not compute. I'd go for the cheaper player everytime - it's not hard to glance at 2 listings on the same screen and do a quick sum.
It's not just the price though. If the item is cheaper but the seller looks dodgy i'd rather pay more than going through the hassle and possible loss of money (if they dont refund return postage).

I had an issue yesterday. I have listed an item with multiple variations and have made a count error, so when I sold one yesterday I didn't have the stock to fulfil the order. I immediately contacted the buyer and made a refund but she kicked up a bit of a fuss, so to placate her I did a search on the item to find it from another seller for her. I found 3 sellers selling the identical item cheaper than me and yet I have sold more than all of them combined. The difference I could see was a slick looking professional listing with templates (auctiva) compared to the standard eBay white background with block text. Also the amount of information in the listing can be crucial, some people give virtually none and expect the picture to do the selling. A few well crafted sentences make a product more appealing and help with the keyword searches too.

You might find that your listing has been posted on a forum or a blog somewhere and that the readers are clicking the link directly to your item and buying straight away. I know it sounds a bit of a long shot but it's certainly possible.

I was selling something on Amazon that was cheaper from other buyers on eBay (I didn't bother listing it on eBay because the competition was cheaper). Wasn't selling any for a few weeks and then suddenly one weekend sold about 20 out of the blue and then it tailed off to the odd one every few days. The only thing I could think was that it had been posted on the Internet somewhere.

Don't forget to get the Nectar points on Amazon too!

Amazon can have its risks, I recently put a big (lot of items) order through Amazon. I tend to pay a bit more if needed and select only Amazon as the seller but one item was only with a marketplace seller.

Of course all the amazon supplied stuff was fine, guess which item went wrong?

now I have to drive down the (none local) post office on Monday and fill out a recorded slip to send the incorrect item back, email the seller the post receipt etc I have also had to look elswhere and order the item as running out of time to get it.

We all make mistakes but to put one simple little item in a jiffy bag, how hard can it be.

It depends how large the seller is. I am a small seller and do everything myself from ordering to packing. I shouldn't therefore make any mistakes.

A larger company that has warehousing etc. where there are multiple staff can have problems. When I worked in retail I had a company send me the wrong thing three times. It transpired that a delivery they had received had been shelved wrong in the warehouse. The sales software generates an order which is sent to shipping, very often this order is just a location, so the warehouse staff simply go to the location and pick whatever they find their and ship it.

Because the sales and warehouse operations are often isolated, sometimes not even in the same town, no one would be aware of a break down in their systems until shops started receiving the wrong items.

I agree, but like I said before all things are equal.

Both business sellers, both same types of listing format, both with clear equal returns policies. Mine maybe has a bit more of the fast dispatch kind of stuff, but both the same. I'd be happy and confident to buy from either listing, so were I the buyer, I'd go for my competitor's!

Maybe it's a result of Ebay's email campaign I just received
