I can honestly say we never buy anything special at Christmas.
We pretty much eat whatever we fancy throughout the year and since most stuff is available all the time we don't get too excited about food at Christmas.0 -
We always have a home made curry selection with indian finger food and veggies to make a contrast with traditional Christmas Day dinner. Any over goes with the cold cuts on Boxing day and on...and on...and on.................0

Ooh I was waiting for this thread, these days we tend not too buy much just for Christmas time, as like Mrs Tittlemouse said we tend to eat what we fancy all through the year though I do try to limit buying and Cashew nuts and pistachios to christmas as otherwise I would happily spend a fotune on them during the year! We also tend to go to our parents for all the major meals, so only buy ourselves a few extra seasonal treats.
They tend to be store specific things that are only available for Christmas, so... Lebkuchen gingerbread's from Lidl. Boxes of nice chocolate covered biscuits from M&S (normally get given these as a Christmas pressie). Gingerbread or Eggnog lattes from Starbucks. Profiteroles from the Co-op - they are the best I've ever had but they only sell them at Christmas time.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I think we also need a "What is a waste of money at Xmas" thread. lol
Hampers would be my pick, overpriced and not possible to get a hamper with everything you want...............unless you make your own up with nice goodies. That's what we do for son and MIL.

Smoked salmon - although i do buy occasionally when its on offer, i have this years already in the freezer.
A selection of nuts and kettle chips
Various cheeses
Fancy cold meats
A nice brandy for after dinner
Instead of buying boxes of cheese biscuits i`ve just been buying a couple of packs of our favourites the last couple of years and we now do this all the time.
Anything else i usually make and freeze so that i don`t have to spend most of the day in the kitchen, planning ahead means that we all get to enjoy the day together
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon
