DCF- this year, my xmas eve menu is:

    B'fast- fry up
    Lunch- salad, rice, chicken, croutons
Dinner- Cheesy filled jackets with veg.

not very traditional, but light enough to see us through till xmas day, yet filling enough that we are not hungry!

    Thanks, forgot about having jackets.
  • Lots of nibbles like nuts, cheese footballs, cheeselets. Also get satsumas, loads of cheese (also awaiting the glitch!!), obviously turkey with all the trimmings. Do not normally buy chocolates, and this year will not be buying nuts in shells because it tends to be me that eats them!! I always make my mince pies and cheese straws - if you make those use at least double the amount of cheese they say!!

Christmas Eve we tend to have things like jacket spuds with ham and the suchlike, try to keep it light and make up for it on the day!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • I LOVE Christmas Eve food!!!

We have some nice traditions of doing a lovely glazed gammon, which smells and tastes awesome!!! A homemade quich with tons of bacon in!!! Eat that with some red cabbage and the likes and im a happy man!!!

We don't have anything special on Christmas Eve as we usually do our own Christmas Dinner on 23rd and go to my Mum's for the big roast dinner on 25th, so Christmas Eve is kept more casual. Most years it's either a takeaway or some party food type stuff from Iceland or Marksies. :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned sprouts??

Only ever buy at Xmas time as I'm not a lover and generally just buy a few loose. Son likes them so maybe a 500g pack this year as he's coming home, well our home.

Hubby always buys his chestnuts and he loves nuts in shells, so plenty of them along with cashews. He always buys packets of figs and the odd packet of dates

I'm a cheese fan and buy several different types of cheese and some nice pates. I also like my cakes and get a good selection of those at Xmas, though usually buy cakes throughout the year anyway. Usually buy lots of Xmas pudding when Sainsbury's reduce them after Xmas at silly prices and eat up until Easter. I think they were selling them for about 5p at the end last year - hope this year is the same!!

Things we buy at Christmas but no other time ...

    Twiglets
    Cheeselets
    Pringles
"other" Cheeses (i.e. not just Cheddar for sandwiches)
    Cranberry sauce
    Pickled red cabbage
Biscuits for cheese (and then we throw away half the box uneaten)
