That's the spirit, little_sweetie! Though what a huge difference in wages!!!! Thank goodness for your e-bay income now and then! Happy saving and keep enjoying the banter throughout MSE, a terrific place, thanks Martin!

I know Sue, it makes us wonder what we spent it all on  I think you always live up to the limit somehow. When things started to go pear shaped we looked carefully at what we had to spend and cut out things we could live without, like expensive Sky packages (we now have Freesat) and mag subscriptions (we treat ourselves only when we can afford a single issue) We still enjoy life but don't waste a penny :D and all the tips on this website are brilliant :T

By the way, I do so agree that you and I are both as mad as a box of frogs! :rotfl::rotfl:xx

    Have a great day all!

Oh and WELCOME NEWBIES! Stick with us and enjoy!

I've noticed quite a lot of people mention they get a set amount from the bank every week and pot what's left - how do you do that, i.e. what rules have you made for yourselves? Is it pocket money or does it include groceries, petrol etc.? I'd like to try it but I don't know how much to get out and what to include?
    Rx

Hi rosy, I sat and worked out a budget for everything. All our income goes into a joint account from which we pay our bills including car tax, insurance, servicing etc any direct debits for council tax and so on...then I withdraw our food budget in cash each week as I seem to spend less that way rather than putting it on a debit card. We each have a weekly amount for personal spending (mine is £20 but OH has a little more to cover petrol) then we try to stay within our allocated spend. Christmas is saved for separately. It's never easy but it helps to concentrate the mind on watching the pennies. Any cash left at the end of the week gets potted :money:

Speaking of which, a tiny 19p potted today which was change left from the food shop (but it leaves me £10 for the weekend top up shop) plus 1p shopkill courtesy of Mr M :)

    Happy potting everyone! x

Ooh can I join please

I have cleared out the 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s from my car, bag and purse this morning that was change leftover that we know we never use and I´ve managed to put £6.40 into my pot!!

My goal is £500 to put towards our house deposit.
Can I please join! I actually have three sealed pots, one for coppers, one for silver and one for gold and the very rare species 'notes'. I'm actually saving for a holiday but will open pots at year end with everyone else and cant wait to see how much I have saved!!!
