Hi RedGoose, a few years ago I set myself a news years resolution of not having my morning Starbucks (a tradition i'd been doing for the previous 2 years!) and taking in a flask with herbal tea instead, in an attempt to save money and cut down my caffeine. Every day, Monday to Friday, i'd get to work and before I did anything else i'd open the internet and transfer £2.25 to my savings account. I did that so it felt worth it every day to have sacrificed the coffee and so I didn't get complacement. I

I did it for literally the entire year (from my birthday in Jan-birthday following Jan) and guess how much was in there at the end... £535!!!! :j

AlternateMe, that's really impressive- well done!:T

Our coffees at work aren't quite as expensive as Starbucks' (£1.50 for a medium latte) but even so it adds up. I find it slightly embarrassing that I feel unable to top up my ISA by an extra £30 a month but was happy to spend that on frothy coffee. I suppose it's that £1.50 a day doesn't feel like much each time. The herbal tea's a good plan (and cheaper than my coffee filters)- I think I see an opportunity for increased potting!

£2.25 to go in the pot when I get home (25p from having a small latte rather than a medium one yesterday and £2 from loading my bus smartcard (my town has a system where you can load 10 journeys onto a smartcard for £16. Single tickets are £1.80 if you pay cash, so for 10 journeys I'm 2 quid up).

  • Hello everyone,
I can't believe we're a week into the New Year. Time really does go much quicker when you're older.
I've managed to put a few coins in my pot each week since the new challenge started but I'm not counting what I'm adding I'm hoping for a big surprise in Nov. This week OH asked if I would take his change in exchange for a note, silly me said yes so he gave me 3x£2 coins which had to be added to the pot.
We don't get road kill around here but I do keep looking.

I think it 's favoritism!!! Can we complain about that? We don't even get silver stars and we keep count of the days and hours till we open the boxes for them!!!
