Hi, wow this thread seems to have a life of its own. 3 pages already.
So regarding the card issue the head has now changed his mind and they can be handed out on the play ground before and after school. Still no reason has been given about banning them if the first place.
The school is having a meet the head sesson on monday so a few mums will be asking about "the C word" then.
The weekly newsletter was handed out today but has no mention of these issues in.
I think what has annoyed me the most is that these "orders" have been given out without any reasoning.
Im not trying to turn this forum into the daily mail, I just wanted a few opinions on what I think is the head getting a bit power crazy.

Kiki dont think of a pink elephant type effect...?
Trying to work out what you're referring to but obviously being a bit thick tonight! Can you explain?liana_y2kuk wrote: »The school is having a meet the head sesson on monday so a few mums will be asking about "the C word" then.
You wanna be careful how you phrase that. Some things kids certainly shouldn't say at school - or anywhere else for that matter.Im not trying to turn this forum into the daily mail, I just wanted a few opinions on what I think is the head getting a bit power crazy.
Kat
Does seem a bit extreme, but at least they can give out Christmas cards.. Hope you get some resolution on Monday!
Happy Christmas.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
How old is your daughter? Even a savvy 11 year old can get completely the wrong end of the stick sometimes. I suspect that's far more likely than a 'power crazy' head.0

She is 7 but every mum that I have spoken too has had their children telling them the same thing. Different classes too. The class teachers have sat down with their own class and made the anouncements.
I will find out more on monday. This isnt the first thing like this that has happened with this head though.Smart price rocks!0 -
Banning the word Christmas is a little extreme, it would make more sense if it was just a recommendation and an explanation of why to use the word advent. It's not about political correctness it's just using the correct terminology and they are probably just trying to get away from the commercial side of Christmas and more to the point of what it's really about. Did they not explain to the kids WHY they were doing this?
At our school the phrase 'Oh my god' is banned. They also say prayers in the morning and also say grace before they have lunch and have a minute of silence to pray and be thankful. MANY people grumbled about the above which really irritates me as IT'S A CHRISTIAN school!!!People who play the system to get their kids into the good church schools but then don't like it when they do religious things. Well don't send them to a church school then! (sorry went off topic there!)0 -
Political correctness gone mad.
This country is not aimed at being a homestead for the original inhabitants these days. We are made to feel unwelcome. They should ban the word Diwali as well - But they won't!
Get your facts right before you spout your racist views out.As expalined by another poster, its to do with the correct procedure according to the catholic faith and nothing to do with any other religion or belief!“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -

Another thought, following the venting of my niece, a deputy head in an RC primary school. Noise in the classroom. Maybe the first advent mentions have got the children chattering a bit. From the viewpoint of the irritated teacher, already having to enforce the 'it isn't Christmas, it's Advent' spiel and faced with a bunch of 7 year olds who have understood the pagan aspects of the season celebrations very well, but not the bit about the festival that the missionaries tagged onto the end, more and more about presents and trees and decorations and cards and parties and lists...
...the noise in the classroom gets louder and louder, the teacher, still stinging from the last inspection, the pension scheme changes and with a severe case of PMT/menopausal symptoms hears in the general hum of background naughtiness, Ellie telling Rosie that they don't have to be good for Jesus in December because it's more important to keep Santa happy, someone has drawn a picture of Christmas fairies when asked about the true meaning of Christmas and someone is singing Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer -
'There is NO CHRISTMAS! I am BANNING IT! You will NOT talk, speak, mention, refer to, allude, indicate or otherwise say ONE WORD about that or you will miss every playtime until year five! It's ADVENT, NOT CHRISTMAS and IT IS BANNED FROM MY CLASSROOM! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Amazingfive. I didnt "play the system" to get into a good Catholic school. I applied in the same way as everyone else does. Im not complaining about the religious aspects just the heads attitude.Smart price rocks!0
