Captured another 5 pennies today.
Katy - the blog I was referring to is Martin's blog "Why do teenagers throw pennies in the bin?" blog accessed down the right hand side of the forums page. Sorry I'm not good at doing links:oEvery penny's a prisoner

Good Morning
2000 pennies in Amazon vouchers collected yesterday from a survey site :j which will come in very handy as it is my DM's birthday in a fortnight and she is a kindle addict. Guess what she's getting?? Very MSE :money:
Also 5000 cents from another survey site (they all seemed to hit the target at the same time) I have requested a cheque so I am not sure how much that will be in pennies, part of the excitement will be waiting to see :rotfl:........no, I don't get out much

Wow, can't believe I've missed this thread for so long - I am sort of new to this board though. This thread completely sums up how I feel about pennies.
Mind if I join in? I get called magpie all the time for finding change - I shall put it to good use!

I found 5 pennies yesterday
I've set up a tab on my budgeting spreadsheet (I know - yawn) for my so-called Magpie Money and will pay it in at the end of the month
Every penny's a prisoner! Mwahaha!

Welcome Kitchenbunny - nice name!
Katy... I think a lot of us are asking ourselves the same thing! I was going to say 'today' until I realised I could say the same to myself and it still wouldn't get done.
I've wombled 33 pennies and rescued 6 that were wandering round the floor looking lost.Miggy

Hi Kitchenbunny, keep searching for those pennies but they are like hen's teeth at the moment, for me anyway, I think everyone is keeping them well and truly under lock and keyI really need to get back to my budgeting spreadsheet. Its so hard to know when to start it though
I'll just say what miggy was going to say. Today. I couldn't cope without my spreadsheet, I obsess over it every single dayFree by FiftyDebt of the Moment -August NSD Challenge 14/150 -
If I start today though, I have payments coming out of my account. So do I count those, or start it as though they have already come out? I like to work out how much I have left to spend for the month, but am confused as I am half way through a month.
I really struggle to get my head around stuff like this!
Also, I would like to put my penny prison on my spreadsheet, but I do quite like the surprise of emptying my tin and counting it up to see how much I have. Which do you think is better for motivation?
Oh and found 1p in the footwell of my car0 -
No womble money for me today, but as I had a couple of "extra points" coupons I shall put the value of those points into my Magpie pot. 55 pennies stashed!
Can't help with the spreadsheet as mine is mainly a grocery shopping budget spreadsheet. (trying soooo hard to get a monthly shop below £200). I started mine at the end of the previous month as it was close to my payday. Still working on a full "in-out" spreadsheet so will be interested to see this too.

If it were my spreadsheet, those items would be first on the list of things going out - so they are taken account of but also you get a realistic picture. I think I'd put all DDs and SOs in at the beginning of the month so you know what has to be allowed for (sorry about the grammar!) but insert the daily expenditure as you go along. Of course it gets more complicated if you have more than one source of income, and they come in on different dates.
That's where Freeby's vastly superior knowledge of spreadsheets comes in useful. Also, I would like to put my penny prison on my spreadsheet, but I do quite like the surprise of emptying my tin and counting it up to see how much I have. Which do you think is better for motivation?

I'd find a daily tally more motivating, but that's just me.
Alternatively, keep a daily tally of pennies saved (e.g. coupons used) and any actual pence go into the jar and just get counted when it's full (or you need them).
I haven't searched the car recently for pennies - bet there are one or two lurking!Miggy
