Yikes! I just made a bold move and set up a standing order for a regular overpayment. If you saw the beginning of my diary, you'll know that my 'overpayments' are actually sitting in a savings account and are doubling up as my emergency fund. I am building them up to be 3 months wages and then the overflow will come off the mortgage. The emergency fund will be used at the end to clear the mortgage, if we haven't had an emergency that is!

BUT, the overpayment I just set up is going directly to the mortgage account and is for £33.29, which will round off our monthly mortgage to £1000 exactly. Exciting! I love that every £1 I pay now can save me an extra £1 in interest! I'm off to play with a calculator and will report back the influence that £33.29 will have.

Ok, just by paying that £33.29 extra, it will shorten my term by................

1 year and 11 months! That's nearly two years, people! It will save £10,344 in interest over the term of the mortgage.

This doesn't take into account the extra £3060 I'm saving each year in order to reach my MFWby50 goal, or unfortunately it doesn't take any rises in interest rate into account.
    Exciting!

  • Just popped in to say Hi :j:j

You sound really content with mini MSE, glad your both doing fine.
    Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

  • Hi, it really is amazing the difference these OPs make and I can absolutely understand your excitement - well done :T

  • Thanks guys!

The midwife had suggested using Dr Brown's bottles as they have a vacuum system in them which means the baby doesn't swallow so much air and therefore isn't so gassy. We went to Boots yesterday and used points to pay for a bottle (MOC sig updated) to give it a try. The first feed with it was brilliant, virtually no need to burp her afterwards and she wasn't all tense and clawing at her face like normal! The two feeds I did over night also went well, I had to stop and burp her a couple of times but both times she did a satisfying belch! So I'm just having a look for the cheapest place to get a couple more from, looks like John Lewis of all places!

In other news, we had our first egg! DH shall have it this morning for his breakfast, boiled or fried? He's satisfied as long as he gets his kiss. :kisses3: Morrisons have started doing coupons at the till, like Sainsburys do. They won't be customer specific as there are no loyalty cards, unless it links it to your payment card?? We had a coupon yesterday for......you guessed it- eggs!

Might be going to a car boot this morning if DH wakes up in time. It starts at 10, which is pretty late for a car boot! He didn't go to bed until 3am though so I won't wake him.

Have a lovely Sunday, everyone- should be another hot one!

  • Well done on the egg, although I am sure the hen should get most of the credit.....were her eyes bigger this morning?!! ;-)
  • It looks like the egg was a fluke, no more since then!

I have joined the website 'textbroker' as I read about it on a thread in the 'up your income' section. I have been rated as a 3* writer, which unfortunately means I will be fighting off loads of other people if a job ever comes up! It will give me something to do in the small hours anyway.

We went and registered Mini-MSE this morning. The registrar was nice and was telling us about the strange names she comes across in her line of work. She said someone wanted to call their little girl Tayla, and some people want to just have letters eg) 'J' or 'K'. Sounds like something off James Bond!

Not a lot else to report, oh, just remembered we saved about £1.50 today as neither of the car park machines were working. I'll add that to my MOC total to transfer at a later date as I can't be bothered trying to find my secure key again.

Quidco has about £11 coming my way on the next paydate.

DH has took Mini-MSE to his Mum's to give me a bit of a break and I was planning on a nap, but somehow ended up on here!

  • Oh me of little faith, there was another egg waiting for us yesterday afternoon, not long after I wrote my last post!

I had a really vivid dream about winning the lottery, and even dreamed the numbers so I have put them on the Euromillions for tonight. The dream was even kind enough to supply me with the lucky stars! Fingers crossed!

I have spent the small hours earning myself some mega quidco cashback- albeit a bit naughty. The casino websites are offering £50 cashback if you deposit and play a certain amount. I have hopefully earned myself £100 cashback for an outlay of £30, so £70 profit if they track and pay out successfully. You have to be pretty disciplined to do this!

Went out for a curry last night as it was our 3 year anniversary :kisses3:

  • One of the casino cashbacks has tracked, £50 on it's way! So that's already paid for my initial investment and made £20 profit. The other one hasn't tracked yet, so I'll keep an eye out and raise a query if it doesn't appear.

Had a nice bit of saving today, we had to pop to the hospital as Mini-MSE is still a bit yellow, and on the way out the car park barrier was up and the attendant let us go through without paying! So I'll transfer £3 into the MOC total. Nearly at December's target!

  • Just transferred my MOC money over to the overpayments account, very close to the MSE target for the year! Just the regular overpayments to come out and then I will be on track to be mortgage free by 50!

Filled in my budget tracker as well. Over the last 4 weeks:

    Food: £490.25
    Fuel: £143.47

So, we have overspent £90.25 on food and underspent £56.53 on fuel.
The last week we were only over our food budget by £3.20, which hopefully means we are improving. We were lazy this week and had a dominos, which was £17. I think we would have been happy with pizza from the freezer, so must keep a few in. Must try harder!

We ate from the freezer for tea last night, so a free meal effectively. We have about 10 more meals in there, just need to remember to get them out so we don't resort to lazy solutions!

By the way, those lottery numbers I dreamed of didn't come up. I was convinced I would wake up to an email from National Lottery saying there was exciting news about my ticket!
