The problem with short haul Horace is you never have time to sleep... it takes ages to get anywhere, but huge amounts of time are spent getting to and from the airport, checking in, going through security, waiting at the gate etc, and getting out the other end. The important thing about the long haul stuff is to try to keep travelling the same way round the world. In 2010 did 3 days in Hong Kong (one day of travel at each end), a week in France and then a week in California and by the time I got home I was shattered. I was told I should have gone from Hong Kong to California and not come back to Europe in between, but work doesn't work like that!
Red eye flights are good for long haul, as are Friday/Saturday evening flights as no one wants to fly then, so they're nice and quiet. And for long haul I'd rather travel at 'night' if possible than waste a day.
Believe me, I wouldn't miss the travel. I don't leave the country for holidays...0 -
Done a good day's work so far already. Just going to have a chocolate and ironing break. I am so excited and ready to start work again. There are two abstracts for conferences to write in the next two weeks. GREAT conferences :j
Normally I write an abstract about one thing and send it off. Then when it comes to writing the presentation (a few months later) I end up talking about something completely different. People are expecting one thing and I give them another. Hmmm... Need to figure that out as don't want to look like a wally.
Crickett - your personal style post made me smile. Your outfit sounded fab
Greenbee your travel sounds crazy - hope you get it all sorted.
Well done on the mind map MG, sorry to hear about the coffee spurt.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
I second the sheet for Charles Dickens Day. A sheet is a better idea than cutting up a Victorian lace pillowcase.
Thanks, but I think I've made it sound fancier than it is, it's clearly itself been made from at least two pieces of an old sheet in the first place! And I would do it in such a way that it could be joined back together again if required.
All the travel plans sound a tad exhausting. I take it that flying is the only feasible option?0 -
Went to start the car to go and get DS1 from school - and nada, zip, zilch!!!!
Completely dead battery, so had to get a jump start from the guy who runs the gallery and then take the kids out for a quick runaround to charge her up a little. Just in case I have left her at the top of the hill so I can bump start her in the morning. Battery on order at local garage - would be in Bills week as well, but can't be helped.
Certainly don't want to risk driving to Glasgow and then being stranded on Saturday.
AW well -plenty to eat in the freezers for next week LOL

MG, you might just want the garage to check that it is the battery that needs replacing, and not the alternator (which charges the battery); a quick check with a multimeter would tell you.0

Tired house and family today and dh has gone for a nap! Got a list of stuff that needs doing for work but none of it seems as urgent as it did before inspection so am working to a more realistic timeframe than I normally would do.
