Leave the will until March if you can greenbee, then you should be able to do it for free
. With the pension, do you save enough for it to be worth a pension? Most people are better off filling an ISA first - this might also act as a back-up for ill health?
I have a cash ISA and a stocks and shares one (which I'd almost forgotten about). I certainly need to look at what I'm saving... it probably isn't enough. I also need to increase my payment into my work pension. I think its 8% at the moment, and really needs to be 10% of more - or I could make up the rest through a different pension, spreading my risk.
Would I be able to do a complicated will for free? I know setting up trusts isn't entirely straightforward, and I also know that my nice rural solicitor charges a lot less than the smart London one my grandfather and his wife insisted on using!
Who's up for a tax return challenge this year? Obviously we can't do it right at the start of April as some of us have to wait for employers to generate P60s and P11Ds and banks to produce interest certificates, but they must have some kind of deadline, so we could then work out when we should be able to get them done by. I can't believe I put it off so late EVERY year!
Need to close the blinds and curtains now, as it's getting dark and its a bit chilly in here... I might go downstairs and light the fire and enjoy the last evening of the holiday!0 -
I have has a few hours sit, now need to get a bit more done here,

Just need to sort the cupboard under the kitchen sink, and three food cupboards, and that will be the kitchen done. Once I see what I have to use up foodwise, I can plan ahead for the rest of the month/year depending on the ingredient. Drawers yielded some hidden gems amongst the dross, some lovely beads, an old watch which I'd like to resurrect and 22p. And $2Aus - got all excited when I thought it was a £1 coin.... :rotfl:
Clootie, had that experience with a heating engineer and the reset button a few years ago too. Last winter I kept my boiler going for several weeks by hitting the reset button, but it was always first thing in the morning when I wanted a shower, and I got fed up traipsing out to the garage in my dressing gown at 6.45am! Finally caved in and got it sorted. I've only had to hit the reset button once so far this winter, probably because the pressure was low, and that's been tweaked.
Christmas cards are getting removed tonight, but as usual, I'm leaving the fibre optic twigs in place - they are so relaxing so watch, and not specifically Christmassy - they make an appearance at the beginning of December and get put away when the lighter evenings arrive. If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Well I've been online and dealt with my work pension... so from Feb my contributions will be increased to 10% of my salary. I can always change it back if I don't like it!
I'm feeling a bit restless - I think I might be ready to go back to work... or maybe its just that the study is the only tidy room in the house
I think I'll have an early night tonight, but before then, a potter round clearing a bit more junk might be a sensible idea.0 -
Hi all
Had a good day today with minimal spending £5.18 on food. Should be OK up to w/e now.
Back to work tomorrow - trying to get my head back in the 'zone'
Hope everyone has a nice evening

I know what you mean about trying to find "the zone" - I have started my "Ultimate Store cupboard Challenge" but have been fighting the urge to wander around the supermarket all day.
Got a lunch guest tomorrow - so will go and have a "shop from home" session and decide what to treat ourselves with that is yummy.
Off to pop a toddler into his bubble bath.

Thank you so much ladies, I have filed my tax return. They owe me all of 60p
Also I found the letter from Nastywest saying that they will not chase me after the debt after accpting FF (back in Feb 2010) - couple of letters will be flying, one to the bank, one to the DCA and one to Ombudsman "Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

I've managed to clear quite a bit of clutter pottering round after supper. The kitchen surfaces are now tidy and fairly clear, the kitchen table is tidy if rather full of stuff that I need to find homes for. My in tray has grown again with filing/shredding that I need to sort tomorrow. And my bedroom is a bit clearer.
I think my bedroom needs a really deep clean as soon as possible, as I'm pretty sure that having had it full of clutter for weeks has been part of the problem with my mental energy levels.
I have a list for tomorrow that combines work and housework. And I need to have a very long think about my attitude to food, as its not good right now. If you make something that turns out to be horrible, it should be thrown out, not eaten and the rest of it frozen...0 -
Hello Matrix.
Just watching Endeavour on telly (the prequel to the Morse mysteries of which I am a dedicated, even slightly obsessed, fan!) and thought I would post.
I am getting nervous about going back to work tomorrow. I am going to go to the pool and do some lengths before I go to work, so I am going to be getting into the office at about 8.45 or 9am. In the three years I have been working at this place, I have always got there at 7.30 or earlier, so this is a big change. The other change I am making is that I am working my hours, and nothing else. I am not going to give them any more than they require. Not after the debacle before Christmas. I wonder what my bosses reaction is going to be to me coming in at my contracted hours?
I have got myself organised though. I have my gym bag packed, my work bag packed, the bag of all the stuff I am taking to the office packed. I have a box of cereal, some milk, some cereal bars, my lunch all packed and in the car. I am ready.
So.... lets bring it!
