Have just realised that the M&S reward points earned for buying your travellers cheques at an M&S Bureaux De Change effectively cancels out the 1% charge on sterling TCs... poetry :-)

(the rest of you guys were probably onto this aeons ago)

If you're saying you've had them, I'm very surprised because...

    1. I didn't get them for my purchases, and

    2. The M&S questions say they don't pay them for travel money purchases.
Points cannot be earned on...Marks & Spencer Travel Money...

Damn it! Well, that's a shame, was quite excited for a bit. Oh well...

    Hello
Just looking for some advice frmm people who have requested M&S Striling travellers cheques

have just got my M&S card and was wondering whether to request the travellers cheques in blocks of 2000 over a number of days- as I want to get 6000 pounds worth

Any particular strategies welcomed on this - as wouldnt want them to refuse more travellers cheques after say 4000 pounds. I understand that I can only request up to 90% of the credit limit

    thanks
    Steve
  • What I did is went in to a M+S near me and bought 2400 worth. Went in 2 days later and then they would not sell me any (I believe they thought i was up to something or are instructed). So I went to a different M+S and picked up another 2400 worth, I also had a couple of thousand pound spending that I was planning to make anyway to fill up the card. Now the money plus the money i would have made purchases with is sitting in the good old ISA and icesave.

Also got myself a bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape to celebrate and give back to M+S their share of the profits from HSBC :)

Note its very hard to cash them as 70% of banks wont take them, the best way is to pursuade the postoffice to cash them and wire it to your bank by putting your card in the machine. Make sure they dont send them off, as I got a load back in the post after they tryed to post them to my bank and they said no way pedro.

    Hi all

Just caught on to this thread recently.

Own a &more card myself, gonna get on to this asap......
Also, my mum works in my nearest branch, so no probs at that end!! _party_

Does anybody know if this is possible with Tesco or Sainsbury cards?? (or the like)......
  • nope just +more

its very very bad to buy foreign money with any other card as theyll charge it as a cash advance with fees.

Just thought I'd let everybody know.

Marks & Spencer are now a retailer on Greasypalm (cashback site) and offer 2.5% on any paurchase through their link.

I actually e-mailed greasypalm asking if this applied to the purchase of sterling travellers cheques and got a reply stating "as long as it is through the greasypalm link, you will receive cashback".

So I am now waiting to see if my cashback is allocated. Could take up to 30 days mind........
  • You wont get cash back for ordering travellers cheques through greasy palm

    not a chance!!!

Yep - I did the same with my t/c's by:

    a) ordering over the counter,

    b) leaving things for 2 weeks and then making a telephone order.

I'm surprised so many banks won't take them. n/wide and the coventry bs both took mine without question.
