Marks & Spencer &More Travellers Cheques

Am I getting the run around here?

M&S &More cc 8k limit.

I checked with the M&S Bureau de Change in Bluewater yesterday that I can cash sterling travellers cheques, any ammount, no fee (despite their website saying they do not buy back sterling tc's).
Ordered, through Quidco, £1950 worth of TC's then logged out, logged in did the same again 4 times.
Was immediatly 'phoned by the M&S Travel Money Dept who told me I could only order 50% of my credit limit. Called customer services who said I could order up to credit limit. Informed Travel money dept. who them 'phoned back and said the limit was a flat £5000 provided that was within your/my/ones credit limit!!!
Asked them to point this out in terms and conditions and they said that what is written in the t's & c's was not always the way things worked!!

I'm always pleasant on the 'phone, well pleasant all the time I hope, but this lack of consistency is making my stoozing activities quite difficult!
With hindsight perhaps I should have staggered the requests for the travellers cheques and they may have slipped through the "elastic" system.

How can I hope to efficiently exploit their T's & C's if they keep changing them!

The phrase "Moaning like a pick pocket" has just come into my head for some reason.

    Update:

M&S have 'phoned to take me through security and have confirmed that I can have all the travellers cheques I've ordered.

Sits back and waits for the postmans knock.

Now then; Quidco, what about my 5% for ordering them through you?

    All done and dusted!!
All sorts of responses from M&S Bureau de Change in Bluewater today:
"We can't cash more than £200" being the most worrying! However after I asked them to check they 'phoned me back saying it would be OK.
Felt a bit shifty as they made more 'phone calls as I stood there but came out with the cash and straight into my offset savings!
Cost 1% and a trip to shopping hell: benefit 7.55% equivalent for 12 months!

    Stooz pot £32.5k and growing!

    Bye for now.

I ordered mine through QUIDO ages ago and have emailed them asking for my 5%. Their response email said it could take up to 90 days before they respond. I will let you know what happens.

I ordered my cheques through Quidco as well, i've never used the site before so im not sure how it works. My purchase doesn't appear in the my account section, is a purchase supposed to be instantaneous?
  • Sounds familiar!
Got my new M&S&more card Monday morning and immediately ordered my TCs (£2000 - my card MS&More card limit) online through QUIDCO and got a call within a few hours from M&S saying they'd just received a call from the currency guys saying their order had been bounced by M&S as purchase beyond my card limit....they wanted to know whether to refuse my order or not, so M&S Card services called me.....they said I could only order 80% of my card limit and would I like to reduce the order to around £1600 or cancel the order....with a few tips from this website and keeping myself nice ;) I proposed a possible increase in my limit, which they obliged by calling the underwriters and upped it to £2500 on the spot. M&S then rang the currency guys and the order went through....cheques cashed on Tuesday into my Nationwide account, fee free!
Thought what the hell, have ordered an additional £500 this weekend online the same way and wait and see if I get another call.....
As for QUIDCO....no record of M&S transaction appears yet and going to give it another week before nudging 'em along. Will let you know what happens.

...they said I could only order 80% of my card limit....

Well, there you go; I ordered 98.5% of my credit limit! :D

Maybe there is a general stoozing lesson here: on the one hand credit card companies have very strict terms & conditions when it comes to charges etc. They seem quick to use the letter of their law to whip yo' a** if you pay late; but some very fuzzy logic is applied to credit limits, % balance transfers etc.

I mean....they use some sophisticated algorithm to calculate your credit limit, based on credit score, time with bank, phase of the moon etc. and then when you say "I want to borrow more money than you have allowed me" some character says "alright then"!

I think this is something you more experienced stoozers know; softly, softly rachet up limits. I go in, all guns blazing, "I demand a higher limit, I want to transfer 200%" ! and they say "Tough, you should behave like Mr. YorkshireBoy"!

So much to learn and so little sense!

Happy to be proved wrong, but this...
    Dear YorkshireBoy,

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately the purchase of travellers cheques
    does not attract cashback.

    Kind regards,

    It's so unfair!!!

(of us to try and make money out of them!)

    Thanks for that, I think.
  • Is this still on?? I've just got an M&S Card for my first stooze and now the floodgates have appeared to open!!!
If I'm right, you buy up to what your credit limit will allow in TCs and pocket the 8% from QuidCo? (8% til Feb 14th!!!).

Then simply return the money to M&S account?
