I'm pretty sure when I read the T&C's, M&S will not buy back their travellers cheques.
    Correct...
We do not buy back coins or Sterling Travellers' cheques

  • Correct...

I think that must apply to the Travel Money Dept. The bureaux will cash them, I know, I've cashed about £8k worth.
  • Just been to my local A+L branch and have been told (after a couple of phonecalls and asking around their office) that it was "physically impossible" for them to take them

Not sure how I can take advantage of the offer now!

ok, so just let me get this correct.

Once i get my m&s card i should order as many sterling travellers cheques as i need (need about £4000)?

The cheques arrive in the post?

I can then take the cheques to an M&S bureaux to get them exchanged for cash without any %fee?

    Cheers,

    Cheers,

    That's correct.

I would suggest you give the B de C a ring before you go just to let them know you are coming. They will probably want to make a 'phone call to find out what their rules are as they don't come across this every day. They may also be short of cash in their branch! I used a couple of branches near me. Bluewater managed £6k of the £8k I was cashing that day. That was one occasion I hoped I was being watched by security as the cashier helpfully counted the cash out loud for me to attract any chancer that fancied a quick mug in the car park!
  • t/chqs ordered Thursday afternoon, just delivered so now have 4900 to pay into a/c - no phone calls from M & S like some posters - can now pay off 4 cards all ending their 0%

i just want to double and triple check on whatI've read on this post, im a VERY scepital person and wary when theres a 'free luch' out there.

I applied for a M&S card for mum, she got it so now.

So she can order sterling travellers cheques up to a % of her limit, this is all fee free, the pay the cheques as normal into her account and start earning interest, and she just needs to pay the minimum every month, and if she buys via a quidco account she earns cashback on this too.

Not a percentage of the credit limit as such (I maxed out my card). However, technically there's a £2.5K per transaction limit for online/telephone orders. Details on the M&S website.
    this is all fee free
No, there's a 1% fee. Details on the M&S website (again).

Be aware that some institutions will not accept them.

    No cashback on TC orders.

Could I respectfully suggest that you re-read the M&S TC threads on this board again, and check out the original thread on the stoozing site, before your mum gets her fingers burnt.
