The other car they are considering is a Renault. I don't think they care about poor quality electrics!

Well that's the thing that makes most anxious about the Renault. Just gonna make sure I get the extended warranty :)

I have had one renault, electrics were rubbish, over £300 fixing the heater just after the 3 year warranty ran out!! It was an 06 plate

Amongst other problems, would never have another

The supplier parts warranty starts from the vehicle registration date, i've sat down doing the math many many times. If a supplier can say "it's a day out of warranty", they sure as hell will.

What warranty a manufacturer gets from their suppliers is irrelevant. What matters is the warranty the manufacturer gives their customers.

Currently KIA offers seven years, Renault three.

i was close to buying a CEED. But put off for the high servicing costs and poor styling of the interior.

The styling isn't bad but I think the cloth they use for the seats looks a bit naff, to say the least.

hubby bought a C'eed 3 & bit years ago, and we've found it to be one of the most reliable cars we've ever owned. 50k miles or so on the clock & all it's needed are more disc pads (mileage) & a repair to the suspension (after going over an enormous pothole). We've started to look around for a replacement, and have not found anything that compares for the price. Would thoroughly recommend

    .

Exactly not sure how this got into this conversation. As a customer your contract is with the manufacturer (possibly via the dealer) and not the part supplier, so the supplier warrnty to the manufacturer is completely irrelevant to you and me

^^ Ugh, my point was that a 7 year warranty shouldn't be taken as a statement of a vehicles reliability. It's merely the manufacturer gambling that the extra sales will make up for the shortfall.

Plus its the reassurance it gives to the customer that the manufacturer will cover any serious defects for longer than a manufacturer who only provides a 3 yeear warranty for example

The thought process the manufacturer has is irrelevant to us - that is merely their stategy to fund their business

Which is all irelevant to the consumer
  • Am a kia owner and wouldn't buy another one. If you trade them in regularly ok but if you like to keep them avoid. Mine is 6.5yrs and I have been told it is not worth repairing. Engine is fine but a lot of other things are going wrong.
