So you are saying that all components supplied to manufacturers are given a five year warranty? Do you have any evidence of that, any links?

    Why would I have "evidence"?
I used to work for a supplier who had to handle warranty claims from a number of major car manufacturers and sometimes the parts warranty exceeded 5 years some were even as high as 9 years.

Why not? It seems a reasonable question to ask to see if you have any links which can back up your claims.

Strider is missing the bit where the car can sit around for months prior to sale.
So the supplier ships parts to the car manufacturer, the car gets built, shipped to storage, then shipped to the dealer, then sold. So the parts warranty was negotiated to cover the months or years before the customer warranty started, either as a blanket if as you say 7 years, or to start when the car was first registered. As the second is hard to control, the first option is easiest to maintain.
Why do you think the car manufacturer should cover the gap in the parts warranty?
Where did you work in the supplier chain, because that was a very basic part of the agreement?

i was close to buying a CEED. But put off for the high servicing costs and poor styling of the interior. Good point is 7year warranty and that was it. Instead bought a new citroen C4. Has many more features and extras and much better styling all over. Try lowpricecars for some decent deals - call them better prices than he quotes online sometimes.

The supplier parts warranty starts from the vehicle registration date, i've sat down doing the math many many times. If a supplier can say "it's a day out of warranty", they sure as hell will.

  • Thanks for all the responses guys. :)

I think it is just basic commercial-sense that a supplier would generally be keen to avoid liability under warranty by pointing to the fact that the part is outside its warranty period. :)
