Hope the leak is ok.
spending £500 a year is hardly a good option0 -

MOT repairs included new mid and rear exhaust, some welding where the driver's seat belt is secured, some work on suspension and a few small bits. Never gets through MOT without around £300-400.
to be honest,, he's giving you 300 - 400 reasons a year to mistrust him0 -
I would have spent near enough that much if I had the car serviced and MOT'd and did nothing else.
Tyres, a set of rear shocks, brake pads and disks, handbrake and back drums, brake pipes, exhaust, all adds up if you put the labour charge on it.
So still seems fair with what the op has posted so far.0 -
i'm woundering if it has power stearing????0

I thought so, on balance, including how much I just need a car on the road so looking for a new one without much notice was not an option. Also as I said I bought it for £400 six years ago, or it may have been £350, can't quite remember. I agree it is getting close to being not worth it, and had already thought about next summer for getting rid of and by then I should have paid off most of my debts and may be able to get something else. i also agree about throwing stuff away; I considered doing the scrappage scheme when it came in but thought it a) not moneysaving considering finance for a brand new car which I don't need and b) bad for the environment despite the hype about it not being. I like the frugality of an old banger, until it reaches a point when it is definitely more expensive to keep, which I agree it is at that point possibly now or soon. I'm not sentimentally attached to it - it's maroon after all.:D. But it used to belong to a vicar who went away on missionary work for six months of the year when it was at home in the garage, and the church paid for all its services so it had a good home.

Ok thanks. How would I know whether or not it is this? It did fail on steering two years ago as there was excessive play. This was fixed but didn't require replacement. Looking at where the drops are it is around that area; all on the right hand side towards the front. Would this be a major problem - i guess so.:cool:0 -
BTW nothing noticeable now within the steering itself.0
