Ebayer Buyer - Possible Scam Imminent
Comments
-
Do you ring a mechanic every time you drive - just in case? Wait to see what happens. You have a buyer who opened a dispute due to your response. Doesn't sound like a scammer to any of us.
But just to be clear. Nobody has any proof the phone you sent relates to any imei number you come up with. All this paranoia about serial numbers is a waste of time.
You obviously live in a bubble where things never seem slightly weird, and good for you!
You obviously have the 'super power' to detect scammers and as such never been a victim of them.
The fact is i posted this thread 'BEFORE' i even new of a claim...due to a series of events prior to the dispute...not responding to 5 messages i sent over a course of 10 days.
Failing to report the issues he had which he now informs me happened within 2 days of reciept of the handset...why wait 8 days to let me know??
And the fact about the IMEI number is that 'I know' what phone i sent by the reciepts i possess and the IMEI number on those, if there was to be a situation whereby i recieved back a different phone, i know i can contact the police and O2 to bar the handset...what use would it be to me barring a handset i do actually possess?0 -
Well, just had a confirmation from ebay that he has closed his claim/dispute.
So something has caused a change of mind.....end of story0 -

Always worth responding to a SNAD along the lines of 'sorry that item with serial number xxxxxx isn't acceptable, please return this item and after I've validated the hidden security mark, I'll refund'. It's enough of a bluff to make scammers think twice.
Having sent it SD puts the scammer on the back foot to start with,0 -
End of the fairy tale you imagined out of nowhere.
Maybe I've not got super powers. Just experience.0 -

Thanks for the one reply that wasn't instantly suspicious.
Will bare that in mind for future reference, although I guess with a phone you would say IMEI number ending ***** for example.0 -
End of the fairy tale you imagined out of nowhere. Why on earth would I make it up....good god listen to yourself!
I took Macfly's quote to mean the worrying about what might happen, not the reaction to what has happened. If everyone posted for advice on a possible occurrence then the boards would be 100x busier than they are now. I try not to pre-empt what may happen and deal with problems if they ariseIt may sometimes seem like I can't spell, I can, I just can't type0 -
Glad this transaction seems to have worked out for you.., but to be honest, you are lucky. I would never ever ever sell an item for £490 to an ebayer with only one transaction to their name. You can set ebay to only accept bids from people with x transactions on their account.., and u reduce the risk of being scammed by doing that.0

Eh? You can blOck buyers with unpaid strikes but are you seriously suggesting you think there is a way to block buyers who haven't purchased anything before!?0
