Ebayer Buyer - Possible Scam Imminent

Hi,

Will try and keep this very brief, on the 17th I sold my unwanted iPhone 4s (it was a free upgrade), I only opened to check contents etc...so basically never used.

It was bought as a 'but it now' for £490, the buyer paid within a couple of hours via paypal, so was happy with that, i did notice he had a feedback score of 1 as a buyer, it was a positive but the comments negative (basically, won auction never paid) I thought nothing of it as i got paid.

I sent the item special delivery to the address they had on ebay and paypal and still have the reciept for this etc. I tracked it online and it was signed for on the 19th. I sent a few messages via ebay to ask if recieved to make sure and leave feedback....heard nothing till yesterday.

They sent a message via ebay saying it keeps freezing and wont connect to itunes, and if i had any idea what might be the problem...i replied saying it was never used and as such had no idea.

I entered the serial number on the apple support site and of course its still covered under the warranty, i even called apple to clarify and told me to book appointment with an apple store.

I advised them of this as well as saying update to latest itunes and firmware if applicable.

There english in the message to me seems not great, but i can smell a possible scam coming, what should i do if they want a refund? they had the phone over a week not replied to any of my previous messages.

How do i stand in terms of just saying go to apple as its under warranty and the possibility of them taking it further with ebay or paypal and winning?

Thanks in advance

I got it from carphone warehouse...when i entered just the serial number on the apple support website it showed the item as covered, it did not have any of my details.

I understand it covers the item itself as when i asked if i needed to take any ID they told me just the phone...

So assume so, as its the manufacturers warranty

If the item is faulty though buyer would be perfectly entitled to return it for a full refund.

Yes, very much so. Apple don't even need to see receipts, if the serial number still flags up as having warranty its covered.

I would have been worried from the start. Special Delivery was the correct method if Paypal said it was ok to send.
He could raise a SNAD and be told to return it to you before he is refunded.
Will it be the same phone though!!

Yes i do, its on the upgrade reciept from Carphone Warehouse.

If he tries to scam me and send a different phone I will contact O2 and get them to bar the phone.

But if he really wants the phone, surely a trip to apple to resolve is the best option by far?

It depends, if Apple agreed it was faulty he would probably be given a refurbed 4s, which whilst that would be a great solution if he's had the phone for some time I don't think I'd be too happy with a refurbished model.
