With the teacher strike on Wednesday i need to take the day off work to watch them. i have 1 day annual leave left that i was saving for the Friday before Xmas. My employer has said i have to use this day off for the strike on Wednesday.
Is this correct ? i wouldnt have thought i would have to use up my annual leave for this type of reason.
I think you should go on strike0 -

How else were you going to take Wednesday off
I am as annoyed as every other parent about it - i have had to pay for childcare for weds.
I certainly wouldn't expect my employer to put it down as compassionate leave or anything other than holiday or the day is banked and I pay it back0 -
given there has been over a week's notice of the strike there is no way it can be considered "emergency" care of dependents so time off for under 5s etc does not apply.
Annual leave is the best way of dealing with this, bearing in mind the employer is under no obligation to let you take leave at short notice if they are prepared to do this it seems fair.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

well the simple answer is, the school isn't open, so you need to sort out childcare. Its similar to inset days - what do you do for childcare on those days?0 -
It may not seem fair but this is the exact reason why unions call for strikes - maximum disruption and press coverage to get their point across !Bow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0

Apparently David Cameron said to bring them to work with you.
Haha, proof (not that any is needed) that he doesn't live in the real world. Does he really think employers insurance covers young children in the workplace? Let alone anything else.Clean credit file:12 mthsCar loan: FREE! :jTHE PLAN: 1.Pay off debt £8808.42(£3254.45, £1570.32, £2698.33, £0:dance:, £1000, £285.32) 2.Save monthly for Christmas/insurance etc £150 per month 3.Save for emergencies /£1500 4.Save for our B&B £????depends which one takes our fancy0 -
