Orange say that people With tariffs after the 1st of September will not be rising, but i had a text saying mine going up on 1st of February by 4.34%

When I called them they said that i was but on a different tariff and it was a old one so people on contracts after 1st of september will go up to. They dont seem interested I said to them they have publically said no-one after 1st of september is affected and been told there nothing can be done surely this is not right.

You agree to the contract by using the phone, you don't have to sign or tick anything

Would you be happy to exit the contract if you had to send the phone back?

    I wouldn't have a problem with that.
  • ok so i posted on here earlier but I can't seem to find the post???
My question is I signed up for a £35.00 a month contract with orange through phones 4 you on my bill it states a £40.00 contract with a £5.00 credit so what will they base the 4.34% increase on the £40.00 or the £35.00 that I signed up too?? Also what I would like to know is am I able to cancel my contract with them because of this change? It's not the money that is the issue this is now the 2nd time they have changed T&C's with me while I have been a customer of there's and I am sick of them thinking that they can do what they like!! what happened to customer loyalty I know times are hard for all companies but surely it makes sense to look after the exsiting customers rather than do things like this and lose customers???
one very angry Orange customer :-(

Let's try to put to one side the rights and wrongs of people looking for a get out of jail free card for there contracts the main point really has to be who,s terms trump who either orange are right and are well within there rights or ofcom are and what orange are doing is wrong
It doesn't affect me too much as 3 of my contracts are ending before or just after the planned rise but as in a earlier post I'm so desperate to get rid of this company now I'll try anything and 3 have offered me 2 month payment holidays on new contracts
  • I would imagine that Olaf is now wishing he had not authorised this price increase. I bet there are some squeaky bums over at Orange Towers.

I am pursuing this myself with Ofcom, Orange and CISAS if it gets that far. I think this whole sorry episode could do with some TV exposure like BBC Watchdog etc. That would put the cat amongst the pidgeons.

I wonder if Olaf has had a look at the forums? Hmmmm.

Seriously, I think he has grossly underestimated the strength of feeling over this cheap stunt.
  • Sent this yesterday, no reply yet (don't really expect one).

    Hello Mr Swantee,

With regard to your recent announcement of a 4.34% price increase for your monthly mobile customers, I wish to inform you that
you have made a huge mistake and have outraged a great many of your most loyal contract customers. Many of these customers have vowed never to return again to Orange. I don’t blame them. Your decision is a very poor one from a customer relations point of view. You really have stirred up a hornets nest with this silly, insensitive increase!!!

Today I have been on approx 10 internet forums and I can tell you that the strength of feeling against Orange is immense and raw (see for yourself if you dare). People are outraged about this price increase and it’s insensitivity, coming when times are hard for many people and just before Christmas. Why the hell could you not have left existing loyal customers alone and hiked prices just for new and upgrading customers only? It beggars belief! The damage you have done to your brand will only become clear as the months unfold and your once loyal customers begin to dessert you in droves.

People never forget who stung them when times were hard. I certainly won’t!

Orange really are the experts in how to alienate customers. I once had good feelings towards Orange, but after this I will never again touch the brand. It stinks. Your corporate arrogance is breathtaking. You don’t deserve to have any customers.

I have lodged a complaint with Ofcom and will also be lodging a formal complaint with CISAS if my (recorded) formal letter to Orange requesting to terminate my contract without penalty is refused. I really am determined to get away from Orange now, penalty free. I don’t give up easily.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope you get the pats on the back from the shareholders.

Cxxx Wxxxxxxxxx – soon to be ex-loyal customer (amongst many, many more).

p.s. I’m not stupid and I realise that you and your executives have carefully calculated this as a gamble that you know you will will lose some customers but that will be outweighed by the extra revenue generated. Any CEO that is prepared to gamble with the goodwill of his/her loyal customer base for the sakes of a few extra million quid is a fool.

p.p.s to hide behind inflation as an excuse is laughable. If inflation was negative, would you be offering to reduce my monthly tariff. Don’t make me laugh.

This thread is hilarious- plans going up by 10p a month and we get an influx of people who can't afford their £stupid iPhone contracts wanting to walk away from them. I certainly hope Orange stick to their guns :)

No, my price increase isn't immense, but it's the principle for me really...I chose my plan as I'm sure many people did based on what was offered and that included the price per month. That is the reason I SPECIFICALLY went with Orange, swapping from O2....and now Orange have changed the goalposts. Trustworthy...I don't think so. :(

Im glad you find it so amusing. Maybe in your world you can afford a price increase because your income hasn't been cut by 40%. I can't.

And it's not "10p a month" either, so getting your facts right before climbing up on your high horse would be a good idea.
