  • I renewed my contract (24 months) in Jan 2011, and have not had a text from Orange yet. Does anyone know when my prices will be going up, Jan or Feb, and when they will inform me?

You should get a text this week if you are affected. I am pretty sure all customers that are affected will be told this week
  • I haven't even received a text or anything to let me know my price is going up, but I'm guessing I'm not special enough to be left out of this price increase. I am well unhappy about all of this, the RPI has been like this for months, but they just decide to increase, now, a MONTH before they increase. I guess it was to get as many people on the network as possible, and then tell them about the increase, other than before and potentially lose those customer's.

Even if it is their T's&C's, they HAVE to notify you of any price increase, for any reason, and if they do not, then they are in breach of contract. If they advise you, then you are pretty stuck.

I have just emailed them saying I am unhappy about the price increase as I have not been informed, and want to get out of the contract.

    Let's see what they say......

They put their prices up by more than the RPI and by more than inflation

I see this as a good thing as if its that much of an increase you could leave them.

I suspect that for most people this is the straw which breaks the Orange camels back though, like myself I've been looking for an excuse to leave Orange early to switch to someone like Vodafone as Orange just do not seem to care about you as a customer, their coverage is poor, they fail to inform you of services or entitlments and their rewards for being with them for 10+ years are to be quite frank laughable (10 free text messages or 5 free picture messages, which if you don't use within a couple of weeks you lose anyway. So yeah not even per month just 10 messages or 5 picture messages)

I also frequently have issues with being unable to make a call, or after making a call I cannot receive one for several minutes. Text messages not sending or receiving, poor quality calls when at home or work.
Also data coverage is terrible and slow.

The list goes on.... So yeah paying more for a terrible service is a great reason for me to try and escape
  • And on top of this, had a rather heated debate with an Orange customer services chap yesterday when trying to replace a broken phone.

My HTC has been turning itself on and off, prompting me to phone up and have it replaced only to be told that I no longer had Orange Care (I do) and because I never responded to text messages sent to me by Orange (never received), I would be charged £573 to replace my phone.

After politely telling the chap that I wasn't having any of that, he was able to 'drop' the charge and replace my phone for free, as they should have

I've had this contract with Orange for over 10 years now and this is the first time that I have worried about their general business practice.

An EU ruling says customers must be contacted after 60 months to ask if they still want the insurance. If you don't respond yes to the text Legally Orange MUST remove the care. ALL companies must do this.

The fact you say you didn't receive the text is well.. you know, he said she said kind of thing.

Orange sent TWO texts to all customers affected asking them to respond.

But if Orange are still taking the money for Orange Care that means that cover continues

    Just got my text!

What a con! I'm extremely annoyed (p***ed off is a better word).

Its only about £2 a month extra, but its the principle of it!!

plus.... next month, you'll hear about Orange's record profits or something similar.

It seems that Orange are reporting a loss of about 18% i think on this time last year which to me seems like the real reason for the increase in price.

I am on a £40pm contract so its not that the increase is not affordable but the principal of the increase how Orange have the audacity to do this to there Loyal customers. Its certainly going to make many people leave and repell and new customers so i cant see things getting any better for Orange.

What else is hidden in these T&C's that we dont know about?

I have made my frustration know to Orange and will fight this all the way!

Neither will Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile or any network.

Its all about your monthly spend now not your loyalty. I'm leaving Vodafone as they won't offer me any thing much as an upgrade. Read the threads and Vodafone customer service os regularly slated on here.

The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, but rarely is in practice.
