MSE News: Orange to raise monthly mobile costs

It is high time "disconnection" fees for early termination were reviewed. It is disgusting charging the full line rental for unused months. Virgin Media & BT do not charge this amount in their early termination fees. They are much more reasonable.0

Perhaps people should start avoiding "contracts". I got sick of being tied in and at the mercy of a single airtime provider. Especially as the majority of "deals" are 18 months minimum.
I ALWAYS now buy a handset privately and then I can go where the hell I like when I like. If more people did this then mobile companies would have to re-think their strategies.0 -

All my cashback is paid within the first 18 months, so for months 19-24 I will not get any more cashback. With cashback, my deal works out at £1/month; if I could leave after 18 months without penalty I could save £150! That means I would have been paid £126 to take out a contract with unlimited landline calls and 400 x-networks minutes each month!
Of course, if Orange offer me 5% discount then there will be no material detriment during the rest of my contract so, I guess, I could not leave without penalty!
Similar situation for me with e2save. All my cashback will have been paid 17 months into a 24 month contract. If I cancel the contract at that point I save £175, and Orange will have paid me around £150 for the life of the contract!
Thanks Orange. Ofcom are going to make sure you lose this one, and the wife and I will have had two 17 month full-fat contracts which you'll have paid us £300 for.
Except that it won't happen - they'll cancel the increase wherever they need to to keep the contracts.0 -
Three or four people mention a 5% discount. Is this correct? In particular:
Will all Orange customers be getting this automatically?
Will we be receiving confirmation of this somehow?
Is it 'just' for 6 months?0 -
I have just emailed orange my official complaint. Will see how it goes. Its going to add on £2 a month for the remainder of my contract which is 10 months.0

What I don't understand with this change is the fact that any customer who signed up on or after September 2011 will not be effected by this change as they are paying a higher price already. Example I pay £30 for 300 mins plus unl text and 750mb of data, my new price will be 31.28. But the new cx pays £31 for 400mins unl text 750mb of data and two orange swappables. So they pay 28p less and get a potential off an extra £30 worth of extra services. This is the bit that is unfair in my opinion.0

Hello all,
I know it's not nice when something like this happens but here is a tip for you all.
Only old tariffs are being increased in Jan. If you are more than half way through your current contract you are able to switch onto the current tariff which are not going to increase in Jan and in most cases the t/p allowance is better.
Example.
you are on a Dolphin 25 which is going to increase.
If you switch onto the current Dolphin 25 the price is 25p more and you get 100 extra mins and no increase in Jan!
To summarise
Old Dolphin 25 = £25.75 with VAT
New Dolphin 25 = £26 with VAT plus 100 extra mins and no price increase in Jan.
Everyone take a deep breath, calm down, switch onto their current tariffs and be happy your not with Vodafone.0 -

They put their prices up by more than the RPI and by more than inflation

Might bite the bullet and see what deals I can get on Tesco Mobile then.0
