Now see here. This tale alarms me. I don't much like the sound of "salesman would call to confirm cancellation" very much at all. For your own peace of mind you must get written confirmation that you have cancelled and the best way you can do this is to either write to them and send via Recorded Delivery, or take the cancellation letter to them directly and get them to sign a piece of paper acknowledging the receipt.

I worry about you and I'm concerned that your 14 days grace are ticking away and that you have no concrete proof of your desire to cancel.

Hey Steve, Can't remember if I mentioned it but I have written and I sent it recorded etc on the 31st and I checked online and it has been delivered.

Goods news. Glad you now have appropriate proof. You may well need it.

I haven't heard from them so hopefully that's the end of it.
  • gosh js2006 you had me sweating reading all these posts i'm glad you have sorted it.
depending on where you live other posters on here may be able to recommend a good window company also if ever you find yourself in a similar situation always have someone with you male or female then you won't feel intimidated, i could lend you my hubby he loves arguing with arrogant salespeople especially window people.

Unless you have confirmation of the cancellation in writing I would not relax just yet.

The tactic of telling you somebody would call round to confirm the cancellation is as other suggested a delaying tactic. There is no reason what so ever that a sales person would come out to your house if all he thought he was going to do was accept your cancellation.

I would pen another letter and send it recorded delivery asking for written confirmation of the cancellation, also make reference (time and date and who you spoke to if you remember) in the letter to your last telephone conversation with them when they agreed to the cancellation. If you phone again make sure you get the full name of the person you speak with, but ideally no more phone calls, do everything in writing where you have proof of what was agreed.

    :D

There's no need for him to do anything further. He has sent a cancellation by Recorded Delivery, and, unless any other specific way of cancellation was mentioned in the original contract, then this action alone should suffice.
  • I once had a window/doors salesman - a grown man - crying in my living room because I wouldn't sign.

there has been so much good advice on this thread.
