I'm really really beginning to panic now. It did seem quite excessive but I assumed that they would be worth it. I really only expected a quote. I didn't expect to have to sign anything. I don't know if I can get the bank to cancel the £100 as I gave the guy my card number and stuff.

!!!!. He asked for the security number on the back of the card too. He said it wouldn't do anything. Why was I so stupid!?

I honestly thought I was doing the right thing dealing with Weatherseal. I honestly did. maybe that's given me a sense of security (albeit false)

Don't panic. You did say you had 14 days to cancel. Just cancel it and that's the end of it.

Get in touch with your credit card company if you are worried about the companys integrity.

I tried phoning Weatherseal and there's a technical problem apparently. Hopefully it gets sorted soon because the guy arranged for a surveyor to come out on Monday.

Christ. I am such a bloody idiot!

At least with Weatherseal it should be problem free to cancel. They look like a big national, so they might be ok.

That doesn't mean to say that I think that your quote is competitive, because I don't think that's the case. I think it's far too high.

Stop beating yourself up. your protected by law with a 14 day cancellation - this will include the return of your deposit. We've all made hasty decisions that we regret - the main thing is to do something about it before it's too late. Try to remember for the future that any company with integrity will give you time to conside their quote - any that tries to pressure you sign immediately are generally to be avoided.

I had some windows replaced a couple of years ago and became quite friendly with the guy who did the job. He told me how the big companies operate and the profit margins they make - really scary stuff.

Further information for you. As well as telephone cancelling it you would do well to write to them to cancel. Clearly state the date and refer to the order number and you must send it by Recorded Delivery and check online that it has been delivered and signed for in a few days time. Or, take the letter of cancellation to them and get them to issue a receipt to you.

I think I might cancel the card to be on the safe side. We all do stuff on the spur of the moment that we kick ourselves for. Don't beat yourself up. Your sorting it out - no damage done. :)

I would send a letter - recorded delivery to cancel the order. I wouldn't trust them to honour a telephone cancellation

Before I went ahead with mine I got several quotes. One was particualy persistant when I said I wasn't doing anything until I had had 3 quotes. He was really pressuring me to sign up. In the end he admitted that he only got his commission if I signed up that night. Even if I went for them at a later date he got nothing. Watch out for guys like these!

He certainly would have earned his commission had you signed with him at a later date. He was trying to make you feel sorry for him and at the same time he knew he was on the turf at that moment and that if he exited the stage and someone else arrived and gave you a lower quote that he would have lost out!!

Be very suspicious of these salespeople, after all, they've earned it!
