Thanks, this has given me some great ideas for how to attach my little animals. I've almost finished my first one, she just needs her final stitching after being stuffed and the wings attaching.

I'm sooooooooooooo pleased I actually did some sewing properly, it has inspired me to keep going and start being adventurous.

Just take care they are very sharp!!!!!!!!!!

Some of them have a handle which you have to press to reveal the blade and when you put it down it automatically covers the blade up again. Mind has a cover which I have to slide up so I have to be very careful to make sure that I slide it back over before I put it down. I've got a few scars from mine!

for christmas 2010 my son and his partner bought me the sewing machine i had been craving to have. its a old second hand one (at my request) didnt want them spending loads, but like others on here i hadnt touched a sewing machine for many years. and this last year, since i was given the machine, i have hardly touched it. i had such plans for patchwork, cushion covers, oh lots, but so much other stuff has somehow got in the way. a friend suggested that i dedicate one day a week for sewing and to stick to it, no matter what. but that didnt work either.

so this year - again -i am going to sew. a patchwork cushion cant be that hard, surely. all i need is to get one thing done, and then i will have the encouragement to do a bit more.

I find that one of the most difficult things is the time it takes to get set up to sew. When I was younger & more energetic, I might come home from work, have a meal, then spend an evening sewing. But as I got older, I found it more of a faff (and more stuff in the way!)
I suggest that you set up a sewing corner if you have room. If not, invest in some plastic boxes, and a tool box (DIY tool box much cheaper than the same thing sold as "craft box!) and try to have your sewing fairly handy, so you can put in an hour or two without re-arranging the living room.

I find the same thing jackyann.
It's not only finding the time, but having to get every-thing set-up, make room etc etc.
It's too easy to have dinner and sit down and do nothing, isn't it?

I quite agree if you have to move everything to sew it becomes a huge hassle. I am lucky that I can use my DD's room when she is at Uni. It looks like she will move in with her BF after Uni so i may get a sewing room full time. No excuses then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:T

  • I'm lucky that I've had a sewing room for a few years now, but I still find every excuse not to go in there - it's too cold, it's too small, it's upstairs etc etc. At the end of the day I just need a bit more motivation (and a bigger room :D)

I love reading your posts and searching for ideas..Im usually a knitter and crochet fan, but decided to dig out my Mums old sewing machine, bought a pattern from ebay. I didnt realise how time consuming they are to make though!
