Hi everyone
Great thread, I to have been wondering if to buy the Al*i sewing machine, I already xstitch and am teaching myself to crochet but I used to do a lot of sewing and knitting when my DDs were little, when needs must, and would like to take it up again to make things for the house and as presents for next Xmas, the family have agreed to a homemade Xmas and I aim to start early:rotfl:
So any ideas would be appreciated, I havent read the whole thread but I will.

Room for a little (ish) one?
Handsewing was something I used to love and I am part way through a patchwork quilt for my DD.
I also got a sewing machine for my birthday two summers ago and apart from squares and rectangles like table runners, draught excludersI have really not done anything with it. It has also spent the last few months buried under a pile of clutter
Now it is free I am going to make a bag that I got the fabric for ages ago and I would love to keep track of my success and failures on here. Not had a chance to read through the thread yet but I am sure I will soon get up to speed! Stitching Witch I love your corsets and dream of making my own one day

I am a knitter but I now have a sewing machine and I am excited to start making things I have no experience of sewing therefore I just want to make things for my home and I am currently reorganising my home/life therefore I wanted to ask has anyone done any sewing to make things to help to organise themselves at home or in their everyday life? Any ideas to help me get organised so I can make it myself would be appreciated.0

I have the Silvercrest and love it, don't know about the Singer. Though obviously Singer is a fairly good make as far as I am aware
There is this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3704657
Though it isn't that helpful
Another project I need to do this year is 2 long bags with various size pockets on each, possibly on hangers. Not sure of the logistics as yet but one is to hold birthday paper and cards etc. and the other is for Christmas paper etc.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
hi there, can i come and play?? have been playing at bits of crafts for ages but am determined this year to become a bit more adept and get back into making some clothes for myself, used to be quite good at school (skirts, blouses, jackets etc) but alas seem to have lost the skill:mad:
anyhoo, have seen lots of nice projects on here to break me back in gently (pincushion mouse for a start) and oh has promised, admittedly after a drink or 3:D to build a new work desk for me in the back bedroom where i can have my machine and all my stuff out permanently, instead of either cluttering up the kitchen or having to put everything away after every single session
well love looking at everyones projects and ideas, you are all such an inspiration:T
FUDDLE just to let you know that i got the jl machine just before xmas, but i hate to tell you that depending on the colour they were half price, so my lovely pale blue one was a bargain £27.20!
anyway, heres to a fab crafty 2012

Rummer it's made a huge difference to me having the little bedroom to have everything all together and sewing machine out:T
I've become quite addicted to bag-making, they can be nice and easy or fairly complicated but mine are so far all easy. They all look good though and make me feel more confident. I've had several books from the library and all have a few ideas that are different.0 -
Can I join too?
I've been cross-stitching for years but I've got a growing pile of projects that are stitched but need making into something useful rather than sitting in a box looking lonely.
My DH bought me a Brother sewing machine for my Xmas pressie (well done that man) but I've now got to get to grips with it as I'm a sewing novice.
Any tips on a first project?
lg xI'd rather be watching CSI!0 -
Going to Al*i tomorrow to have a good look at sewing machine, actually may go this afternoon and walk down as the sun has just come out and the sky is a lovely shade of blue:) after all the wind last night and rain this morning it would be nice to get out for a walk.
Cant wait to get started, I have made a list of small projects and the links to other web sites are great, I used to sew years ago so Im not a complete novice but I will have to take it slowly to get it right and start off simply :j

Hi there, just came accross this thread today. I have an 22yr old singer that I've dragged out of the garage recently and want to get back into sewing again. Ihaven't made much in the last few years except a couple of basic bags for the girls to use for thier swimming stuff when we're at our caravan and a couple of guinea pig cosies for DD's piggies. My old singer needs a bit of attention as the bottom plate is a bit rusty, the tension needs seeing to and probably a couple of other things. It sews but you can see by the stitches that the tension needs sorting. Anyway, today I've ordered a new Singer Curvy!! woo hoo!! so can't wait for that to arrive. Then later on I'll have my old Singer serviced and repaired. I'm also waiting for some bits and bobs to get started on making some bags and I have a basic patchwork quilt that I started for my baby daughter...she's 11 now!!0
