Welcome aboard everyone, the more people joining the better :D

Diflower, Thank you :D Thank you :T Thank you  Book marked.

I am so jealous of those who have a sewing space. Mine is the dining room table, so everything has to packed away.

I got a brilliant bargain today. I popped into the local sewing shop and picked up 8 pieces of fabric for £20. They are ex-display curtain pieces that you see hung up in shops, so they are really good quality material and they are lined, so 2 pieces of fabric for the price of one :D. They are about a metre long and 1/2 metre wide, £2.50 each. So thats the start of my stash proper, though a couple of pieces have been earmarked already. I am so chuffed to bits :T

I have also decided that I am going to take one day a week for sewing.

    Hello all,

Was hoping to join in too if that's ok! I'll try and read the rest of the thread and have a catch up.

Although I cross stitch and can hand stitch I'm pretty useless at 'real' sewing. I treated myself to a sewing machine out of a recent tax rebate and am now looking at learning what to do. My nan said she'll teach me. :D I think becoming a mummy has made me want to be able to be useful with a machine so I don't have to send baby to her nanny to get things fixed when she's older.

Looking forward to finding out what you're all up to.

My sewing space is a shelf in the dining room... admittedly its deep, but it's still not perfect. But its better than nothing. :-)But in order to make space for a sewing machine and all the bits and pieces, i had to buy a smaller dining table.

Dinner is now a bit of a cramped affair, but sewing comes first...sorry diners!!

You'll be addicted to both soon enough! ;) Not sure when I'll ever have time to learn to sew, spend too much time on here!

  • Can I join too?

I've been cross-stitching for years but I've got a growing pile of projects that are stitched but need making into something useful rather than sitting in a box looking lonely.

My DH bought me a Brother sewing machine for my Xmas pressie (well done that man) but I've now got to get to grips with it as I'm a sewing novice.

Any tips on a first project?

My first little project was a drawstring bag..made it from an old pillowcase :-)
I use it to keep all my rags in for cleaning.
I wash all my old dish cloths and old pieces of material to use as rags! Got fed up with having a cupboard full of rags that fell out everytime I opened the door!

  • Hi all! I'm new to sewing, and got given a sewing machine plus a lovely box of accessories for Christmas - can I join you so I can get some inspiration? I've made a couple of bits already after a kind person on freecycle donated various fabric offcuts to me, but I'm not sure what to do next. I want to do small things that are quick to make to start with!

What I realised I have is a massive box of odd socks - any suggestions of something to make out of them (not sock puppets!)?

I've also started a blog just to show the things I'm making - can I post it here, or is it not allowed?
