Glad you've joined us jpscloud and glad you got your machine sorted. It only needs one little bit to be out and the whole thing goes pear shaped. A denim throw sounds nice a good way to use up those old jeans that usually get thrown away. Good luck with the sewing. I had to search for the thread as it was pages back so I thought I'd add a post to put it back on the front page. Happy Sewing :j

Thanks miffy, I guess we don't post as often as some threads so I'll subscribe this one then I can find it again!

Well that is my little pot all labelled up with 'savings for a sewing machine'. I want to save £59 for this John Lewis mini sewing machine. I know it is tiny and will only be basic but that is all I would like to be able to learn the basics.

    Morning All

I am new here and was wondering what machine you would recommend to a beginer with a limited budget, would like to make household items, maybe a bit of patchwork?

  • Morning all  my apologies for being MIA but with the kids being home and Christmas prep and all that I haven't had time to sew.

Projects for the coming month are reuse an old cotton sheet and turn it into napkins for everyday use. I also have another ripped sheet that will become handkerchiefs for the kids.

I want to make a quilt for my SIL's baby when it arrives and we know what it is. But I am going to need a lot of advice on it when I get round to making it.

The other project is to make so carry pouches for the kids new to them for Christmas DS's.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and happy sewing in 2012.

  • Wen, I noticed that Aldi or Lidl ( you will have to check their websites) had a Singer machine in their specials for around £90.

I've found my hand sewing project (as I don't have a machine)

This is for my sister's hamper for her birthday in September. It looks simple enough for me and not too daunting for a hand sewer.

Pattern to print if anyone is interested :)

Not for my 565, but I'll have a hunt around - I do have them for other Joneses & may well have one for something very much like yours. Might take me a while though!

Thank you but I ended up buying the manual on-line - if anyone wants it, it's in pdf format. The on-line company I bought it from seem to have sold my e-mail address to every spammer in the country, though . I've had five or six spam messages every day since I bought the damn thing!

  • Fuddle my daughters partner bought her that machine this year for her birthday and she is thrilled with it, its quite a sturdy machine too :) Have fun with it :)
I am trying to give myself permission to enter my sewing room ( otherwise known as the box room lol ) I have so many bits and pieces I want to make, including a couple of baby quilts, but I feel as if I should be doing other things instead of having fun..... need to overcome that I think. Thanks so much for the thread :)

Have started on the handkercheifs and done four so far plus a half size practice one :D . Will try and get a few more done today, the longest bit is ironing the seams over for sewing and I hate ironing.
