Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
We have a bit more of an idea about hubby's job changes, he currently works a 8 hour day & it has been decided that the job needs to be extended to a 12 hour day, but instead of getting another person in to do the extra 4 hours they are looking to make it 3 x 4 hour shifts. Hubby has been informed that he may only get one shift. So his hours will be reduced to 20 a week & as he has to reapply he will return to the mnimum wage. He will be earning about £6500 pa. His fares will remain at £1500 a year, hmmm, it's going to be tight. If he gets 2 shifts they cannot be consecutive so his fares will rise to £3000 pa.
Yesterday I finished my first mobius scarf, today I plan to start a 2nd.
I found 4 slices of roast beef in the freezer, so dinner today will be roast beef with yorkies, roasties, peas & cauliflower cheese, hubby can have the beef, I'll have everything else.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all who follow,

Well I survived DD2's birthday party! Actually they were all really well behaved and DD2 had a wonderful time. DD1 was great help as well. I even had enough energy left to put in an appearance at a party myself later in the evening. Mind you, I couldn't get over how much they all ate!

DS comes back from his weekend away this afternoon so that will bring another pile of washing so the WM is on to clear everything else before he gets back.

I am off to take DD2 to a netball match in about half an hour and then there will be church when we get back, apart from that I am going to have a quiet day and sort out what Christmas shopping I still have left to do.

Tea tonight will be HM curry- I love Taarka dhal and have found a really easy recipe.

Hugs to Taplady, JackieG and Lou and anyone else that I have missed.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning All!
HH - that's so unfair on your DH. Where's the concerm for the individual in all of this??? It.s a real "heads you win, tails I lose" situation.
Glad the party went well Moorhen!
We enjoyed the wedding we attended very much - but my lovely heeled shoes nearly killed me! At 5'8" I've only very rarely worn heels and I've decided that at 62 it was too old to begin! My feet still feel sore now! Vanity, vanity!
DS having pains in his liver yesterday so he trotted along to A&E and they want to do a scan next week...
Church today, with the Advent Carol service tonight - my very favourite of the year!
Have counted my stash of Christmas cards today, and will probably only need to buy a couple of dozen more. We do send a lot, but we keep in touch at Christmas with friends going back to school and college days, so it's worth the effort.
Main meal today will be spag bol - normally a roast but as I'm off to Wales for a funeral and then in London looking after DG on strike day DH couldn't face the leftovers all on his own!
Hope you all have a good day, whatever you plan to be doing.
    Take care!

  • Morning all.

Hester what a pile of nonsense! I am very mad for you and oh. This country is going to rack.and ruin.

Thank you all for the well wishes, I did try to post yesterday but it got lost in the ether, so I gave up. No change in BIL, except that he is delighted to be home. OH is going down this morning, we never managed to fit it in, early enough in the day yesterday. I am trying to decide if I want to take the boys in to see him or leave their memories of him as they are, they want to go though. Any thoughts? The reason I am so hesitant is simply because of how terribly ill he looks now. Dss are 9 & 12.

Everyone else is still in bed atm, I am going to give.the downstairs a swish just now, and try to have it all done before they get up. Dinner tonight is toadinthehole with pots and brocolli, and chocolate spong and custard for pud. Other plans for today are getting the Christmas stuff out of the loft, seeing MIL and just enjoying my lovely OH whilst he is home. :)

Have a fab day, stay safe in this awful weather.

Terrible weather here too, that wind is awful. DD going off to start her new job this morning, not sure if the trains are on so will check in a mo.

Went to the staff Christmas do last night and it was ok. These big things are not really my cup of tea. The food was basic and overcooked, an hour and a half late and thrown at us! Still, it was nice to see everyone all dressed up. It was a Dirty Dancing tribute night and a few of us stupidly thought it would be some sort of show but it was just a couple singing. A group of our staff were staying at the hotel last night and I can imagine it would be a long rowdy night! I was in about midnight.

Definitely going to paint in the hall today, not managed any since Wednesday! Roast chook for tea when DD comes home. Must also sort some paperwork.

JackieG - I am sure your 2 DSs are aware of what is happening with DBIL and you have explained to them that he now doesn't look well. I would let them make their own decision as it could be their last chance to see their Uncle whilst he is still well enough to enjoy them. Children can be incredibly resiliant and I would imagine you have loads of photos (from the wedding) of good times that they can look through. You will also know yourself if they are able to cope. Every moment at this time is so precious. Will be thinking of you.

Hope you enjoy your Sundays. Take care. XX
  • Hi
Mrs Mix, nice to see you posting.
Beemuzzed, Shalva, JackieG, thanks for your comments, no one ever said life would be fair, we'll survive I expect, but it's a bit of a kick in the teeth. Oh and the starter motor has packed in on the car, so it's shank's pony for me next week & an extra £17 in fares for hubby, I could catch the bus too, but there is a set fare however long or short the journey so it would be £17 for me too & I'm far too tight to pay that!

jackieg - don't envy you trying to decide what is best re your Dss and your BIL. When DH's nan was ill and not going to get better DH visited her in hospital every day and I did every other with him leaving the DSs with my parents - I have to say I didn't take them and I'm pleased I didn't - the last twice we saw her was truly awful to see someone you love in such a bad way. We have no complaints about her care etc, just such an awful sight and unfortunately for me how I remembered her for the months after she died, it's only now 18 months later than I'm starting to remember the better memories. As others have said children are resilient but I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Hope everyone has a good day.

  • Morning everyone.

Really windy last night, even the cat didn't like it since she seemed to lie on me most of the night
Not sure what plans are today, keeping DS entertained probably:cool: Weekends my motivation to do anything disappears right out of the window :o
Am planning on cooking at lunchtimes in future so need to get the veg etc prepped for lunchtime. Want to make the boxes for the kids Polar Express bells too, as well as cutting out some more felt gingerbread men and baubles. Need to get cracking on things as time is running out. Must spend LESS time on the computer :o:o:o:o

Hester - is there anything you could sell on ebay, your scarves for example?? Hand knitted jumpers and cardigans etc. Why on earth can't two shifts be consecutive??? !!!!in' morons :mad:

JackieG - re the boys....I would personally explain to them how ill he looks, how it's going to perhaps be a terrible shock to see him like this and let them decide. it's a tough one but the fact that they want to see him perhaps they are a mature enough to handle it? you know them best anyway. Lots of hugs xxxx

Beemuzed - enjoy your Advent service. I confess I am not a believer in that sense but I do love Christmas carols and the like :o Hope your DS is OK, nothing to do with his OD is it??

Hugs and spoons all round for those that need them, Lou, Beth and anyone else I've forgotten apologies :o

  • Morning All,

JackieG, I have had a lot of deaths around me, especially when I was young. Although not family, very close friends. One of them happened to be my tennis coach who was also a great family friend, who unfortunately died of cancer. I was about 10 and was allowed to visit her a week or so before she passed away, and although I remember being shocked at how she looked, I am pleased I was allowed to see her one last time. I don't think it has tainted the good memories I have of her.

HH - sorry to hear about your OH jobs situation.

I have had a pretty relaxing weekend. Yesterday I ended up going out for a doughnut with a few a friends, and came out with an extra 2 free :T:T Its the small victories which make my day :D

Today I ended up walking to supermarket because the weather was so mild, thought I would take the scenic route and ended up getting myself well and truly lost :rotfl: Oh well its good exercise I suppose.

Have a good Sunday everyone, and sending hugs to all those who need them
