Mortgage Exit Fees successes and failures

I paid a Halifax mortgage off in 2006. I still have a roll number but thats it. It sounds like thats all i need to claim off the Halifax, but I have got married since and my surname is different - will i have to provide proof of marriage to claim?0

I have just called the Halifax and within 5 mins they have given us a rebate. I didn't have any of the paperwork, i couldn't remember when we took out the mortgage, only when it was redeemed, and we have got married in the meantime so the account is in different names. None of this was a problem. However, if i had wanted to claim the interest back then i was told that they would not settle until the the claim had been made in writing. For £10 interest i decided i would rather have the money now than wait. Anyone else out there who had a Halifax mortgage should given them a ring on the number listed on this website. Thanks Martin you have made my day.:j0

Thank you!
I received the info yesterday in the email re: Mortgage exit fees.
I phoned Woolwich/Barclays (from the numbers given)and they are sending me a cheque for £151. 72!! Easy peasy!!
Thanks again:j0 -
Just one telephone call today got an agreement from Lloyds TSB in Gloucester to repay £130 plus interest of £17.98, total £142.98 to be paid directly into my account. They refused to confirm if I would have ever been repaid had I not contacted them, despite the fact that they had ALL the information to hand immediately, saying 'you've been overcharged...' THANK YOU for such valuable info and help!0

Redeemed mortgage with Halifax March 2006.
Phoned today,success.
Payed MEAF of £175 should have paid £40
Cheque for £135 on it`s way. Result, happiness.
Thanks,Martin0 -
Rang Halifax this morning, within a couple of minutes I was offered £135 - the guy I spoke to said he couldn't authorise the rest, so he put me on hold, then a lady spoke to me, took the details regarding the literature I had from 1994 and said they'd look into it and contact me within 5 working days.
I hadn't switched to any other deals, so was on the original terms of the 1994 mortgage.
If anyone else took out a Halifax mortgage in early 1994 and didn't switch deals but no longer has their booklet, send me a PM and I'll happily forward a scanned copy of the relevant pages :-)Google is my friend ..... :j0 -
Hi
Wonder if someone can put me right on this.
Do you qualify for the refund of Mortgage Exit Fees only if you have moved lender, would you qualify for remortgages and home moves but still with same lender?
Thanks in advance0 -

changing deal isnt a remortgage. moving homes would involve a further advance and most deals are portable with the exception of increased borrowing or reduced borrowing.
Dont mix up fees for retail purchase costs (buying a fixed rate for exmaple) with exit fees.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
