I applied for a refund of exit fees just after xmas, i got a letter about 2 weeks ago staing they had overcharged me by 90 pounds and if i agreed to settle i had to sign a form and they would issue a cheque.
true to their word i got my cheque within a week. it is definately claiming. i had no account numbers only the addresses of the property and they still processed my request0 -
finally received £ 210 of £295 exit fee from A+L
took quite along time as never received acknowledgement or fee as they sent all correspondance to the previous address I had moved from.
Lots of calls to customer service , and finally cheque arrived .
Hurray

Just got off the phone to C&G, who are sending me £71.74 and £145.11 for 2 mortgages - £216.85 which I can now put towards repairs on my son's car. I've been meaning to do this for ages and all it took was a phonecall. Thanks MSE.:T0

I cleared most of my Portman mortgage but left a small amount (£2000+) outstanding because of the exit fee of £145. I have just contacted the Nationwide (they merged a while ago) and now there is no exit fee at all. Not only that, if I leave a balance of £1 they will charge me no interest and will keep my deeds safe and secure. Brilliant. To get this I have to have another qualifying account (which I already have).
Now the only thing stopping me is the 6.05% I am getting for one year on my Egg Savings account which makes it cost beneficial to wait until the one year Egg offer runs out as the Nationwide Mortgage rate is now 2.75% (and falling).
I have had my differences with the Nationwide but they are still streets ahead of anybody else.0 -
I am not sure if I can claim. I also am unsure if I can find account numbers as suggested in the letter. All loans were from PORTMAN.
PLEASE can anyone help or advise me what to do next ;
1st Mortgage took out July 1996 and reedeemed Sep / Oct 1997.
2nd Mortgage took out Dec 1997 and reedeemed July 2001
3rd Mortgage took out July 2001 and reedeemed May 2007.
ALL WITH PORTMAN.
I appreciate this is my mission and problem, but would really appreciate some guidance. Can I claim and what is the liekly ammount for the above 3 mortgages? and what if I can't find my account numbers for these mortgages.
THANKYOU if you spend the time to reply.0 -

To report your stories click replyJust read Martins Money Tips this morning regarding mortgage exit fees.I took out a mortgage with Coventry Building Society in 2002 and re mortgaged with the Co operative Bank in 2007 (Lifetime tracker with no min rate!!).An exit fee of £195 was charged. Made a quick call to the Coventry which took 7 minutes - they took all details and have advised me that a cheque for £100 will be sent to me within the week - what a result!

Mortgage Exit Fees- Easy Easy- I just telephoned C & G(Building Society) gave them my Mortgage Account Number(Account paid in full in March 2005) they told me I should have been charged £30 and they had charged me £225 so they would give me a refund (including interest) of £235.83. This amount would be in my bank account within 10 days. How happy am I- one telephone call was all that was needed. Thankyou Martin.0

I've just reclaimed £75.00 from the Halifax, no quibble! Cheque on it's way, wow!
I took my mortgage out with the Halifax in April 2001 then switched to another lender in June 2005.
The 'Mortgage discharge fee' on my original mortgage contract was listed as £75 but they actually charged me £150 'Repayment Administration Fee' (subtle change of title I notice but obviously still the same fee)!
I didn't provide them with any details of the difference in fees.....thought I'd let them come up with the figure in case I was wrong. All they asked me for was my roll number, name, address, dob and whether I knew my mortgage start & end dates!
All it took was a 4 minute phone call and I'm £75 richer, thank you so much Martin!!

I am having trouble getting through to the Woolwich. The 'dedicated' line 08000234180 says that due to unforeseen circumstances they cannot take the call (and then cuts off), the 0800 3165500 mortgage sales number won't help. Customer services on 0800 0224022 is so automated I can't get anywhere... any other ideas? Or an address to send the letter to?
