All,
About to remortgage from C&G at the end of a 2 year fixed deal. They are quoting a £225 final admin fee. Am i able to contest this and if so should I act before I pay or after??
Grateful for your wisdom

Only if you were quoted less in your mortgage contract0

2 years ago I finished my mortgage with Netwest, in order to get a better rate with Halifax, and paid £225 exit fee. Last month I followed MSE's advise, rang Netwest a couple of times, in total I only spent about 8 minutes on the phone, and I got a cheque of £140 back!!! Excellent, Martine! :money: You are an angel. :A
:T :T :T  :T :T :T
But now, I'm facing the end of 2-year fix, and is going to re-mortgage to HSBC. Halifax is going to charge me £175 for exit fee. I rang Halifax, the lady who answer the phone wasn't very helpful and didn't even bother to ask my mortgage account number to start with. She told me that I signed the application 2 years ago, and have agreed the chagre; therefore, I'm liable to pay £175.
Should I ring Halifax again, or, bite the bullet and pay this fee? Please help.0 -

£175 sounds spot on for 2 years ago. Just pay it.0

Well today we've received a cheque from Coventry Building Society for £70, this goes into the pool of £50 from Bristol and West and £10 from Northern Rock. I have not heard a word from Halifax so they may well get another letter from us shortly as there is no excuse for ignoring a letter. Has anyone else had problems with them, I admit we didnt know mortgage/roll number but we did supply them with the mortgage address and date last mortgage payment was made to them. Surely they must be able to find this information out on name, address etc. Would like to hear from other ex Halifax customers on their success or failure to get them to reply and deal with this request.0

I never got to the bottom of who was to blame. In this time, Abbey made me more than 1 offer as by the time the remortgage was finally sorted, the original offer had expired. Although the original offer had a £99 exit fee, the final one was for £225. Can I claim the difference under the circumstances?
Similar story to me. Was trying to repay my mortgage and kept asking for a final redemption statement which listed £99 redemption fee & £80 discharge fee. Kept asking for the discharge fee to be removed as I felt I knew what to do to discharge the mortgage myself (needed to inform land registry, etc). Abbey kept dragging their heels and when they did eventually issue a letter, after I had made the major capital repayment, the outstanding amount owed included a newly increased £225 redemption fee (this change was also shown in their new 'Tariff of Charges' sheet).
Hence phoned Abbey last week, completed and returned their enquiry form and now awaiting a refund.0 -
If you received an offer stating £225 meaf, whether for a product conversion or a further advance you won't be entitled to a refund. If the last offer issued stated £99 you'll be able to reclaim the difference.Small business owner 🧵 Ex MSE comper 🏆 Student loan repayer 💴 Romanian dog rescuer 🐕 Hopefully a cost of living survivor 🤞🏻0

Hi all, I'm new here.:j
with ms expert I claimed back £155 from the Halifax. They initially charged me a £175 exit fee. I phoned them and requested my money back. It was in my bank account in a week. Great site.0 -
Have had very easy experience claiming exit fee on a Buy to Let mortgage from Mortgage Express. Followed Martin's advice to the letter and within the month have had a refund of £155 from them with no argument Cheers Martin:beer:
Just hoping that at some point I will be able to also claim all the arrears fees they also charged me for 9 months due to horrendous tenants leaving the house and leaving it and us in the poo!
Good luck to all.0
