  • Had an Abbey mortgage which I redeemed, made one phone call, filled in a one page form and bingo a cheque for £126 came through the other day.

Thanks Martin, couldn't have done it without your newsletter/site
  • Thanks Martin. I just recieved a cheque for £155 for exit fees on a 'Mortgage Express' mortgage redeemed 2 years ago. I used the pro-forma, and I should point out that I had no records of the originally proposed 'fee', only the final fee and my mortgage number.

By the way, my partner got £2k back in Bank charges from Abbey National using your letters last year too!

    Regards.

Please help, I remortgaged due to high fees from mortgage company but it was under the 2 year period, so I was charged £2,000 for leaving early as well as admin fees and exit fees - which can i claim back?
Also I am applying to get late fees back from the mortgage company, has anyone being successful?

  • Hi everyone, I'd like to report a success story on reclaiming a substantial chunk of my fee back! :j I took the advice given in the e-mail, rang the relevant helpline, spoke with a very helpful lady on the other end and, subject to a manual search of my account, would be in line to recieve a cheque for £75. I can now confirm that cheque has duly arrived through my letterbox today!! Thanks to everyone at MSE! :T

Many thanks to this site, the only paperwork i could find regarding the mortgage I paid off 5 years ago was an old annual statement. I re worded the template letter and had a cheque for £125 (no interest) from Northern Rock within 6 days.

You cannot claim back an early repayment charge. it is a valid and legal fee.

Its only the difference between the redemption charge from what you were told it would be when you took the mortgage out and what you were charged when you redeemed the mortgage.

When I applied for a remortgage someone made such a hash of the whole transaction that instead of taking a few weeks, the whole thing took about 9 months. I never got to the bottom of who was to blame. In this time, Abbey made me more than 1 offer as by the time the remortgage was finally sorted, the original offer had expired. Although the original offer had a £99 exit fee, the final one was for £225. Can I claim the difference under the circumstances?

How do I reclaim Late Fees from the mortgage company? Is it the same letter that you used for bank charges??

    Any help would be appreciated.
