  • Moved in 2002 but kept mortgage with Halifax. Read the article, phoned Halifax and a cheque for £35 is on the way. (Difference between £40 and £75).
    Thanks
  • Thank you!!!! You are fantastic Martin.:T
I phoned my previous lender this morning after watching the 'It Pays To Watch' last night, £140 for a 5 min call, not bad!!
  • 10 minutes on the phone to Cheltenham & Gloucester and I have been promised a cheque for £251. What can I say! Thank you so much Martin for the brilliant programme.

    Thank you so much!!!

Just rang the hotline for my old mortgage company. £180 plus interest now on it's way to me :T
  • :j Phoned Halifax today in relation to my MEAF, didnt have any details ie: mortgage account number.after answering a couple of security qestions was told i paid £175 when contract stated £75. Now being sent a cheque for the difference. Decided to do the same for my neighbour who paid her mortgage off 2yrs ago with Cheltenham and Gloucester. The lady i spoke to told me she could not deal with me as i didnt have account number,(after pointing out i was under no obligation to provide this) she told me that my neighbour should not of paid her MEAF of £225 it should of been nothing because her mortgage expired naturally.(Because of the ladies not so helpful attitude) i then asked for the 6.25% interest. So the moral of the story is 5mins on the phone and i will get back nearly £500. Please do the same if you have paid your mortgage off. Thanks to all MSEs for making this public.:T

  • I cant believe how simple it was to reclaim my mortgage exit fees. On my contracts with Halifax I was charged £175 instead of the agreed £75 on one account and £175 instead of the agreed £115 on the other account. After a 3 minute telephone call im now £160 better off. Im now telling everyone I know who has a mortgage to check to see if they have been overcharged.

  • Just wanted to add another example - £140 back from Natwest for a mortgage we redeemed 2 years ago. The money just arrived in my account, no letter explaining it has arrived yet.

Very easy to do (using the template letter) - would advise anyone to do it.

  • After getting my mortgage exit fee back from Halifax I advised my sister to claim hers back from Cheltham & Gloucester. After giving them her mortgage account number they told her she would receive a cheque or £144 which included interest. My sister is glad I told her to do this and she will advise everyone she knows to do the same.

  • Remortgaged twice, so called Halifax who offered the £60 difference from the original statement to what was charged immediately.....Happy days cheque on route!

Not bad for a 5 min phone call.

Then transferred me to Bank of Scotland who are sending out a form so hopefully more to come

:j getting my money back is good, but would be better if they didn't :j
steal it in the first place!!
