Martin - you are my hero!
I paid off a mortgage a few years ago after the breakdown of a relationship. I had no paperwork, mortgage account number, exact dates, or even any idea of what the fees were.
I modified one of your standard letters and sent it to the West Bromwich with details of the address, my decree absolute and new marriage certificate, and 10 days later I get a letter. I fully expected a no, but it's an admission that my original fees were £125, but they charged me £265.:rotfl:
£140 for 5 minutes work and a stamp!!!!:j0 -
Hi
Printed the draft letter saved on the site and filled it in with the details relating to our account. Sent it off and had a reply to say they were looking into it about a week later.
Today we had a cheque for £175 back!!!!
Great advice and like they say if you don't ask you don't get.
Thanks again0 -
 can i try to claim on the ppi with the old main loan or the small home improvement loans i had to get? 2/3 in total ?
can any one inlighten me?0 -
This thread is about MEAFs, not PPI reclaims. If your home improvement loans were further advances on your main mortgage, they probably wouldn't have had separate MEAFs; if they were secured loans from non-mortgage lenders they probably aren't regulated by the FSA and hence the ruling doesn't apply.0

I wrote to my bank a couple of weeks ago about mortgage exit fees and I got £150 refunded. Thanks Martin!:T0

Hi. Got two cheques from Abbey this week for when we moved in 2001 and re-mortgaged in 2004. Used the template letter and then had to fill in forms but only took 3 weeks to get money.Total of £34 which all adds up and goes in the pot with the £90 I got back from Nationwide. This is great! Have just heard I've been successful with my Council Tax re-banding but will post that on another forum. Thanks so much. :T0
