I paid my mortgage off about five years ago,but I can't find any of my documents,Halifax say they have no record of my mortgage. Doe's this mean the end of the matter or is there anything else I can do?0

Just done this myself having remorgaged 3 times in the last 5 years. I sent the more aggresive template letters asking for full refund, but really only wanted the difference which is exactly what I got. Within 2 weeks I now have a £75 cheque from Bristol & West, and a £140 cheque from Coventry BS.
£215 for 30 mins work. Thanks Martin :beer:MFi3 T2 member 1770 -
Moved our mortgage from Bradford & Bingley to Coventry BS about 5 years ago. They charged us £235 exit fee and deed redemption. Got £160 back after sending the template letter. They said that when we signed up for the mortgage (just under 10 years ago) that we agreed to pay £75 quid to move it so they would refund us the difference.
Very happy - nice hassle free cheque in time for christmas !!0 -
I paid off my Alliance and Leicester mortgage in 2004, which I started in 1998, and was charged £295 for the pleasure. Having read the article I contacted A & L using the number provided by this website. Followed the guide and ask the A & L lady to log my complaint. 1 week later I received a cheque for £235!! I immediately phoned them up and this time told them I wanted interest on the £235 at 8% and a week later received another cheque for £50.15.
Really pleased I stumbled on the imformation on this website, there must be thousands unaware of their right of a refund.

Settled my 100k mortgage with them 2years ago, contacted them today Re mortgage exit Fee, as I didnt know account number etc. Was told this wasnt a problem & after a few checks they gave me the details. Now for the really good Bit....... After telling thme I wanted to claim back the exit fee, they advised me that a £195.00 had been charged & they would refund the WHOLE lot direct to my Co-Op bank account will be with me in 2 days. I didnt push for any interest, but certainly worth the phone call, Happy new Year!!!!0

Alliance & Leicester gave us £10.
The Abbey will ask you to fill in forms even if you have included all the information required in your first letter. They hope you will just drop it if you can't be bothered to fill in the form but do bother, we perservered and got £126 back.0 -
I rang Halifax today as we have remortgaged 4 years ago with no details at hand and was told that we've paid £100 and due for a refund of £25. So not bad for a 5 minute phone call.:j Thanks Martin.0
