  • OK, I've done some more hunting around (Google's a wonderful thing - you should try it!) and it would appear that this is a common issue with this and lots of other tablets.

Are you trying to use the Android Market App or the Archos AppsLib app? If it's the Android Market App, then try the AppsLib app. This probably won't have the same number of apps available, but it might have what you're looking for.
  • thanks melliott1963

i am trying to use apps lib, can't see a market app.
but the only app that is listed, in apps lib, is apps lib mass update.
then it asks me to download and install the latest version (2 build 58) so i tap install, and then get an error message "apps lib could not be installed on this phone"

i have managed to generate an application-specific password on my google account, to try and link my archos and google account together, but dont know where i should be entering this password.

do i need to uninstall and re-install appslib on my archos
its only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

  • Baron, I think for the miniscule amount of work involved in simply downloading Mobo player and (if needed) updating a few codecs then if you want this item you may aswell follow the tips on here. Returning it because Android doesn't play .wma is a bit out of order, as a customer i would assume you knew what you were buying. If you no longer want it then that is another story.

    Just my 2 bobs worth.

It really will be a simple to sort.

As Android, get applanet. Its the android market but everything is 100% free (and I mean everything)
  • steven0121, done all what your saying, but the app store is appslib not market, and my archos wont let me use it because it needs updating, but again it wont let me install the update, when i tried to i got this message "apps lib could not be installed on this phone", should i uninstall and install it again, is it easy to do this?

  • This is one of those things that really annoys me, as someone who works in IT. People go out and buy computer equipment without doing any real research or having any real knowledge of what they're doing, and then complain when things don't work out as they thought they might.

If the Archos 7 could, and still can, play the pre-installed video files, then the problem is not with the tablet, but with the files you're trying to play, as has been mentioned previously.

If you're not prepared to learn about something you've bought, then I sugest you don't bother in the future.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but you wouldn't buy a car and try and drive it before you had driving leassons, so why expect to be able to 'drive' a computer without any prior knowledge???

To try and be helpful. If you look at the loaded applications on the tablet, you should see one called 'Market'. Open this and then search for 'Mobo'. You should then see Mobo Video Player Pro in the list. Select this and then there should be an option to 'Download'. Press this. You will then be asked to 'Accept & Download' the permissions. Press this. The program will then start to download and then install. Once installed, look in your apps for Mobo and run it. You really can not 'make things worse' just by doing this, honestly you can't!

Surely it must be worth trying this before going to the hassle of returning it?

Totally agree with this post :T

I'm afraid it's buyers like the OP that have turned eBay into a 'not very nice and unfair' place to sell. I'm glad you have agreed to try sorting the issues out before returning the item to the seller, as it appears there is nothing wrong with the item you purchased.

As has already been pointed out, it is the nature of the beast to need to upgrade frequently. And your 'videos' could be anything from legitimate DVD's, to !!!!!! videos downloaded from a dodgy site ;) So sometimes things won't play 'straight out of the box'.

With technology you need to be willing to learn and to experiment, rather than throwing your toys out of the pram and refusing to learn. Whatever computer related items you buy you will need to update at some point, and if you want to do things with it then it sometimes requires a Google search and downloading extra software.

I am not familiar with tablets, but could recommend VLC player if it were compatible as this plays a wide range of files. Which sounds like the type of player you need.

You've have some good suggestions and help on this thread, and I think now would be the right time to apologise to the seller and end the dispute.

i accept that i may have been a bit quick to complain, but was frustrated that i could not get the videos to work, (oh and by the way digitalphase all my video files are of my family, and holidays and special occassions, like xmas and birthdays, NOT !!!!!!.)

however, after spending nearly 3 hours last night googling, and looking on forums and archos website, i am still unable to play avi files, even though it says on archos's webiste it does upport avi:

    Archos Website FAQ section

Video files are created in many different formats as well as sizes (resolution). The ARCHOS 7 home tablet can play the following formats.
    • H.264 up to 720p resolution – 30 fps / 2.5 Mbps.
    • MPEG-4– 30 fps / 2,5 Mbps. (MPEG-4 ASP@L5 AVI (MPEG-4: ISO standard by Moving Picture Experts Group; AVI: audio/video file container by Microsoft) without GMC and Quarter.)
    • Realvideo™ up to 720p resolution – 30 fps / 2.5 Mbps

With the above codecs, the device can play video files with the following extensions: .avi, .mp4, .mkv, .mov, and .flv

Where can i download these codecs??

my other optionwas to download mobo video player, but as i cannot get apps lib to work, (i have explained the problem in my earlier post) this is not possible, i have even taken it into our IT dept at work and the guy was able to covert the file to mpeg4, so that it would play. but it really is not practical to have to transfer each file before watching it, especially films or tv programs i have downloaded off i player.

so unless i cant resolve these problems, i will probably be reselling on ebay, and buying another media player that can support avi and wmv files.

i may go back to the 605 wifi which i had before this, or invest in a 705, or even a different nake of media player, but not sure yet need to do some research first

  • You could be better posting a separate thread in the Techie Stuff Forum for more help.

I for one can second VLC Player (not used it with android so cant help you there). Had a netbook that wouldn't play movie files. No sound, stuttering pictures etc, downloaded VLC, files play like a dream now.

It depends what codecs they are. Presumably you can connect to the internet and browse on this tablet? If not download and pc and stick onto usb (presumably it has a usb inout? I have never used a tablet but assume its pretty much like a laptop?) Try this first of all, this should detect what is missing from your system and install the correct codec http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

As mpeg4 plays then it is a codec issue and not a file issue as obviously the file is ok. As someone said there are variations of avi so its difficult to diagnose as simply as that.

As for downloading from iPlayer, I hope you are using the official channels therefore the files go after 30 days :)
