It's good to have in store MRS C. and it does keep forever so it would be a wise investment, as I've said before, the prices only ever go up - but 10kilos for one person is still an awful lot of rice!

I could start a rice mountain! :rotfl: Does it really keep for ever? What about weevily things? And what's the best way to store? I think I'm talking myself into it now... :rotfl::eek::D

Well yes, it might take a bit of time to get through Byatt, but think of all the the evenings you could spend thinking up ways to cook it :D

Haven't read all the posts yet, but it's not so much a North/South divide as a North, South West/ London and counties divide. It's horrendous down here for renting or even buying, but wages don't match. Our water rates are the highest in the country, and food (fresh or otherwise costs more down here than up north), petrol is really high and it's very rural, so a car is a necessity. And huge council tax bills. I didn't know the single person's credit was going to be reduced. :(

My income will drop considerably in September, I have no idea how I will manage as it's tough now.

Well if I lose my DLA and don't qualify for the replacement, community charge changes, the bedroom tax and Income Support changes, I don't know what I'll do. Is it any wonder we worry...

    Shelly,
Not much else to choose from politically is there...and they have and would do their fair share of cuts...:(

The threat of burglaries must be a worry and that will go up I fear as things get worse...

I know, I saw a photo a photo of that little lad and thought the same as you.

I'd like Mum back with me and I do miss her and things were reasonable but she'd be worried seeing what's happening and to me. Is she any worse off missing all this? She wasn't very political but when she did hear some of what was happening she used to say "How can one man cause so much hurt for so many." And why when he is a millionaire and doesn't have to. We don't really have a democracy.

Aww Popperwell, I'm sorry about your Mum. I know I worry about my kids, although they won't be thinking about university, jobs, money and houses for a very long time (they are 7 and almost 2). She would probably worry about you anyway, regardless of the economy, job situations etc. Have you spoken to anyone in real life about her? As another poster said, some counselling might help you feel better, I know a friend who used CRUISE and they were a great help.

I won't go into my political views but both parties need their heads banging together, if they smushed both of their ideologies together then it would consititute a reasonable party IMO.

I'm not getting into the North/South debate, as a Midlander I am waving a white flag! :rotfl:

Wow wee this thread is moving so quick.........3 pages later and ive just caught up with the discussion on benefit cuts, well my hubby had a letter this morning from JC saying that they say he is well enough to get "..limited employment".Well how did they work that one out when they havent called him in for a interview....:mad::mad:Poor !!!!!! is wheelchair bound, severe epilepsy, with 24/7 care, carers come in,cognitive probs, severe tiredness due to haemmorage ,left side hemiplegia and blind....and few other less severe health problems that go with the stroke..:mad::mad:......Im fuming. I did have to fill a work focused form in 2 months ago, in which I told them exactly what is wrong with him, and all his health problems, but still they think he can work...:mad:.....When the first form come I wished then that they would interview him so that they could see what state he is in but they didnt.......

Yet I see people with motorbility cars ,smoking, mobile phones, wearing latest designer gear and walking perfectly well, loads of children, how do they manage to keep their benefits?..........When others struggle along with no luxuries in life......Beats me.... Wow ive got that lot of me chest...:)

I think those who have chosen not to get into the political side of things have it right. This thread has suffered badly in the past and I know if it was locked or like last time, banned, well I couldn't cope.

It's best to be mindful because so many people need this thread, now especially.

:) teaching my eldest to crochet. She's doing well! She's going to sit and watch on iplayer the Edwardian programme before bed. It;'' be so interesting for her.

I know what you are saying at least we're being respectful of each other and the thread will return to it's original reason for being there but at present it's got the purpose of trying to help us through difficult times.

Oh that price of that amount of rice might just make a trip over to Lidl worthwhile, we do like rice and it keeps if stored correctly, but can't get there till saturday but as we are then going to GDs birthday party and Lidl is just another 10 mins further on might be worth a look. Broke really till next week but went mad other day and bought a Eurolottery ticket and I won £6, its not something I do regularly but it popped into my head so bought one, so think i can manage the other £4 if they have any rice left

Granny I love the fashions, love 40's styles although my figure is not exactly 40's, well east end 40s, the woman you see usually covered in big dress type apron.

Fuddle maybe we should call a new thread the' make do and mend for tougher times thread' :)

I now have steam coming out of my ears!! What are under 25's supposed to do - go and live with their parents  I have DS living here after his last disastrous rented property turned into a mouldy seive. His girlie had been made redundant 2x in 6 months and the last job she took turned out to be totally different than she had applied for. They are in their 30's and both now back home. My DS is wonderful but its not ideal him being here and he needs his own space. Also he has just had to take 6 days unpaid leave as their firm deals with Natwest and the system is still down . He normally works 6 days a week including weekends and has gone in today to work on reception as he doesnt want to be off any longer - a team leader on reception, what a waste.

The North / South divide has never been more obvious has it - 'haves and have not's'. Do you think lethargy will prevail or will people rouse themselves against this government ?
Goodness the weather has been bad here but I would hate Mardatha's fuel bills. I obsessively turn everything off here and consider carefully before I use electric so any cut in benefits would cripple us.

ginny I've got that steam coming out too! yes, go and live with their parents - because we all have the room for that don't we? Er, no!!

Realistically what is means for us is 4 adults living in a 3 bedroom house but none of us able to share - you can't expect 2 girls in their twenties to share a room with bunk beds for years!! It's already the case that DD1 sleeps in the living room (although she is away at the moment).

I will live and sleep in the living room, the kids will live and sleep in the 3 bedrooms, and we'll share a bathroom and kitchen. I'm over 35, I'm supposed to have more than one room to live in Mr Cameron!! We don't have another room, we don't have an attic, we don't have a cellar, we don't even have a flipping garden where I can live in a tent! So that would be the reality for us. The reality for those who haven't anywhere to go would be far, FAR worse.....:(

I'd like to see any of this evil mob in government live like that:mad:

And on that note I'm out of here, as I REALLY didn't want to get drawn into politics on here but I'm almost beyond anger with this lot now - it's more utter disbelief and despair.

    Righty-o - back to messies thread where I belong!:p
