i'm not getting into the politcal side of the discussion, but if you look back at history you'll see that the Conservatives have always had to make the hard decisions to fix the mess they inherit that Labour leaves behind.Nonny mouse and Proud!!

Well, there's a lot I could say to that, but I'm mindful of the request that this does not become an argumentative thread.
A lot of what Labour did was dubious (Iran/WMD) but a lot was fantastic (tax credits, Sure Start) yet DC has chosen to dismantle these flagship initiatives, presumably as they reminded people that Labour didn't get everything wrong.
Don't forget that DC's father made the family millions with offshore tax free investments; yet he castigated Jimmy Carr for the same.
We are NOT all in this together, I had such hopes for disabled people under his stewardship due to his disabled son Ivan - but we have been the hardest hit under DC's cuts and the most demonised.
Don't tell me that I will be OK due to the severity of my disability. I won't be. The fact that I have to use a stick to walk means that I can move myself from A-B and this will disqualify me from the new PIP benefit.
My public sector adult basic skills teaching jobs, formed under Labour and their initiatives, have disappeared.
Private sector firms such as the rightly maligned Tory-linked A4E have stepped in to sweep up the opportunity to make money but this time without providing a quality service.
Luckily I have a private sector teaching job too, though the rate of pay for that hasn't changed since 2009 and almost certainly won't for the foreseeable future.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Hi all. I usually lurk this thread and never post, but I'm so frustrated right now
I feel like I will never quite be able to afford land or a house. In two years I will be able to afford today's prices for a mortgage or small bit of land, but by then prices will be up again and I will have to save a few more years and before you know it there will be nothing left. I worry it will always be a few more years and I'll never have enough!
I am honestly considering living in a transit van or something ridiculous to reduce my living costsLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
I think those who have chosen not to get into the political side of things have it right. This thread has suffered badly in the past and I know if it was locked or like last time, banned, well I couldn't cope.
It's best to be mindful because so many people need this thread, now especially.teaching my eldest to crochet. She's doing well! She's going to sit and watch on iplayer the Edwardian programme before bed. It;'' be so interesting for her.

Hiding behind the sofa.........the last government introduced tax credits which rewarded people who kept having kids with no real idea of how much they cost to raise.Tax credits also allowed employers to push down wages knowing that the government will make up the difference. Also , families break up , knowing that the benefit system supports one parent families. How many posts do you see on MSE saying 'we are splitting up, what can I claim?'
And remember , this is not 'government' money , it is taxpayers ie our money.0 -
Did anyone have the really bad weather? I think I slept through it...my DD said it was continuous lightening and very scary.
BTW saw 10k of rice in L!dl for about £10...it may have been a bit less...not sure now. Not sure if that's a good rate or not. It sounds as if it is.
Fuddle, my DD is doing cross stitch, she makes up her own pictures and although very basic, she gets a lot of pleasure from it.0 -
BYATT that's an awful lot of rice to get through, at least 3 bathfuls when it's cooked up - but a really good price. How much do you like rice?0
-
I thought that Lyn, when I bought 10kg of basmati rice a while back... but we seem to be cracking through it, and there are only two of us:rotfl:Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0
-
Mrs LW, I didn't get any...I have nowhere to store it, and I would be 90 before I got through it. :rotfl:
3 bathfuls?? :eek:0 -
It's good to have in store MRS C. and it does keep forever so it would be a wise investment, as I've said before, the prices only ever go up - but 10kilos for one person is still an awful lot of rice!0
