Popperwell, what you say about low wages is so true. If wages were decent, people wouldn't need benefits to top them up.

I can see the suicide rate rocketing once these cuts are all in place.

No it doesn't and the threshold that allows help is so low so any little nest egg you have is reduced so you are on rock bottom and have little or no spare cash for emegencies like, repairs or the replacement of electrical items, call out fees, a sudden high utility bill, there's no way I could run a car, I don't even know if I am boitering withing contents insurance this year, I don't have anything of real value(some CD's, two second hand computers, old beds and carpets, old clothes.

That leaves as newish, a couple of tv's but they have replaced TV's that were up to 30 years old)and these will have to last me years into the future. A microwave combi and a halogen oven...a washer and tumble drier rarely used. And A fridge/freezer that has to stay on. And that's it!

Well you can only hope that if things got to a certain stage, people would hit the streets. Look at France - they aren't afraid to stir it in public. Because they know that the govt know (!!) that if you have had one revolution then you can have another :) So its all well & good us supporting each other in here - but that wont stop anything going ahead. Maybe the under 25s will ?
Either way, nothing changes for the vast majority of folk does it.. our great grannies struggled, our grannies struggled, our mums maybe had it a wee bit better - but now we're going back full circle. But NOBODY is better equipped to cope than you lot.
I was talking to the RV (I do, sometimes) -and he said if you haven't got money these days then you sure as hell need wits. Very true! And we think Cameron just floated this idea out there to test the reaction... if people go mad then nothing will be heard of it again. If we just mutter & grumble and the erks in some newspapers write articles supporting him - then he'll go back to the cabinet and say ok let's try this. :(

Fuddle:- It amazes me how many people have no idea of what is going on around them. Most people I speak to say they are finding things more difficult but few have any intention of doing something about it. Its as though the world can change around them as long as they are OK! These policies are being trumpeted to appease the Tory faithful. A spokesman has already said that these are policies for after the next election. We have a year or so to wake up the British population, or the many sleepwalkers who never vote will allow the rest of us to be pushed off a cliff.
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

I am so glad that I'm not responsible for voting this lot in, as another poster said there will be an awful lot (more) desperation once all the cuts are in place. If there were lots of jobs then it wouldn't be quite so bad.

To that end, there have been quite a few attempted burglaries in the early hours of the morning around here. The most recent was a friend a few streets away, terrible.

Popperwell, you are right about the news! I make a habit to avoid it but watched the news at ten last night, a poor 2 year old child killed in an explosion among the other doom and gloom, needless to say I switched over poste haste!

    Shelly,
Not much else to choose from politically is there...and they have and would do their fair share of cuts...:(

The threat of burglaries must be a worry and that will go up I fear as things get worse...

I know, I saw a photo a photo of that little lad and thought the same as you.

I'd like Mum back with me and I do miss her and things were reasonable but she'd be worried seeing what's happening and to me. Is she any worse off missing all this? She wasn't very political but when she did hear some of what was happening she used to say "How can one man cause so much hurt for so many." And why when he is a millionaire and doesn't have to. We don't really have a democracy.

It's the poor now but the so called Middle England will hurt too. Then again they play one lot off against the other and make one section of society hate another. I never really have views one way or another on politics and try to look at things dispassionately but at present it is very hard not to. Hate is a very strong word and something I rarely feel as itv makes you bitter but there are at least five in the present Government I so want to see get their come uppance. As they have no idea what the avearge person is living like.

There is something wrong that so many need HB in the first place...

I don't bother anyone, all I want is to be warm, reasonably well fed, listen to the radio, watch a bit of tv, buy an odd CD here and there and be able to use the internet so I have some contact with the world but if we carry on as we are, I can see me just having a radio for company. And to keep warm diving under the duvet. It's just me now...

Hope I can manage until April when many of these changes are due, after that, who knows...

Popperwell, please would you consider seeing your doctor and trying to get some help and counselling? I can sense your very deep grief over your Mum's death and a depression with everything else too. There's also CRUSE http://www.crusebereavementcare.org.uk/ which may be able to help. Please don't suffer alone. We will welcome you on here but it may not be enough to help you. Am sending you hugs xxx.

That's very kind of you smileyt. I am doing better than I feared but am ready for depression creeping up on me. So will seek help if I get any sign of it happening. It's still early days...(approx 6 weeks)against knowing that special someone for almost 55 years. And living in the same house.

What's making matters worse is the uncertainty of the future. But knowing that initially I will be financially strapped when I come into Mum's meagre savings after Probate and see that reduced to virtually nothing. Not there as a safety net. Makes you wonder why you save?

Worst days I find are Sundays and I think that's because that was the day Mum passed away. Then things improve as the week goes on.

I will stop talking about it sooner rather than later, I'm sure.

At least I am still keeping an interest in my cooking and food. Not just going for the easy stuff like soup...

    (((((((((((((Popperwell)))))))))))))

I'm afraid that I've stopped watching the news. I'm trying to keep abreast of what is going on, but in small amounts and when I feel strong enough to deal with it.

We have a huge storm here at the moment. Hailstones the size of ice cubes and rain coming down in a curtain. It's even driven DS1 out of his room to see what's going on.

Today I've taken DS1 to the Doctors about his hayfever and had to make an appointment for myself, just to get a new ventolin inhaler. Mine got stolen when my handbag got taken. Thankfully we avoided the rain and I'm hoping I will be as lucky tomorrow.
I've decided that today is a roast chicken and veg day, so have some chicken legs defrosting at the moment.

Did anyone else watch 24 hours in A&E last night? I alternated between crying and swearing at the TV. I hope whoever ran that poor man down was watching and is haunted by what they did every day for the rest of their lives.

Ok rant over......take care everyone xxx

Popperwell it does get easier. You never forget your loved one but soon the good memories will crowd out the pain if you let them. You will find yourself smiling because you remembered something funny or sweet about them.

Don't stop talking about your mum talking is good.
