    ((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) for everyone.
I have just finished watching the program about Greece. Frightening indeed. but in a way it was inevitable if people would not pay their taxes even when things were good. It is always the little people who seem to have to suffer the most.

GQ Is it possible you have a rabbit problem? They like onions!

we lost cabbages and then onions in the same bed on two consecutive years then realised it was rabbits. we planted our raspberries in that bed on the third year. Funny that they have never been touched eh?

We also had a problem in another bed with ducks coming in off the canal but they were not as destructive as rabbits and most damage was with them tugging at the leaves on cabbages and caulis.

If i have not made sense today or been to down I am sorry not slept in 48 hrs -

Fuddle will see if anyone comes along with info on starting a new thread if not when rested will have a look and see how you do it .

Thanks pah, i'll PM a board guide asking if it's ok to start a new one. There used to be a rule where by you had to start a new thread once you hit 5000 posts, we're well past 9000 so it mustn't be the case any more. I'll check.

I would love some war time/rationing recipes. Maybe if you referenced where you copied them from, giving full credit, it would be ok?

meme it bounced down here and because we're on top of a hill too I didn't have a clue about all the flooding till I checked facebook. Saw my mum's village completely flooded. Thank goodness she's on top of an incline but the poor souls at the bottom got it all :(

I should watch the Greece program but I'm not going to. I'm hoping for a more settled day for myself today :o

Off to go do some [STRIKE]knitting[/STRIKE] chasing pup round the house because he's nicked me ball of wool :D Catch up with you all later. :)

    Hi, everyone:wave:
Hope you are all ok and that the weather has been kind to you.

PAH:- some recipe's would be great, thankyou.

Fuddle:- Why do you feel that you need to start another thread? I can understand why you don't want to watch the Greek thing (I haven't either) but am not sure why you are upset with the thread?
Yes, there have been political opinions expressed but I don't think anyone got shouted at. Some of the links explaining why things are tougher have been really helpful to lots of us. For me, part of coping with our situation is made easier by understanding why it's happening and that I'm not the only one. Then the amazing people here tell their stories about how they are just getting on with it...Like we have any choce! :rotfl:
Don't hide away in another thread because we would miss you. You are younger than most of us...you are our hope for a more sensible future! :).... Now there's pressure!!! :p
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”

    lol meme :)

'tis ok, it doesn't matter if this thread stays just there's a lot of older threads too and normally when one gets huge like this one it gets locked and we all move onto a new one - like the preparing for winter thread, it's onto number 3 now as loads of posts.

I just figured now would be a good time to start a new one, and might give confidence for some lurkers who would feel they would like to join in but don't because it's an old thread full of regulars.

I'm skittish about trouble on the tougher threads as they are well known for being very argumentative in the past. Us normal folk don't argue amongst ourselves because we're lovely but when opinions get heavy like yesterday - albeit friendly amongst ourselves :) the thread does have a habit of drawing people out of the woodwork and subsequently our thread gets locked or withdrawn. We were stopped from having this thread for a long time due to trouble makers and some of us (me!) were climbing the walls.

Honestly and unfortunately for you all, I'm not going anywhere. I was just wondering if we needed to start a new one now with it being so big and as I started this one I thought it was maybe my place to suggest it. :o

Anyway, I've PM'd Pink-winged to ask if we need to start a new tougher thread. If not we can all stay here :)

I don't know whether to put my washing out or not, one minute glorious sun, the next ominous clouds

    Morning all,
I think we've offered support to each other and have been very respectful and can and will return to the orginal content of this thread. I think that It all fits in with the title of thread and it's good to talk and share concerns that are common to many of us and why many of us are here at the MSE, for advice and to share ideas to try and make the best of situations we find ourselves. Often a thread has a life of it's own...It will go in a number of directions but usually returns to it's original theme...

Fuddle some of the wartime recipes were simple and quite inventive. I don't actually think our doiet was any worse nor our health. As much as anything it was probably the size of the meals but then again havikng said that many people were far more physical in the work they did so needed nourishment and to burn off the calories.

In these tiems i think many return to comfort food.

I also have no problems with having the old favourie "Full" English. i don't believe it causes many health problems(it might if you had it every day)but again it depends whether you grill or fry and if you fry what you use. And you can as proven on the thread about what everyone eats at night there is such a variety of ideas.

I'm not the best person at sowing but in recent months I have done a fair bit and managed to shorten some trousers and the sleeves on items like pyjamas etc...it's good enough for me. But there is a professional sewing service on town but it can cost as much to have them altered as the cost of the clothes.

Prhaps, I should invest in one of those really tiny sewing machines you sometimes see advertised in those suppliments. A big sewing machine would be too large, expensive and a waste for the amount of sewing I would do.

Well our world got flooded today!. Our and DD's houses are ok but others were not so lucky.:(
The storm lasted a couple of hours and the water was over car bonnets. I wonder how many people have let their insurance lapse to try and save money. We live in a high area, we get snow but don't usually flood. The pictures and videos on Facebook are horrifying.
Not so bad in my area and I was home when the weather broke but further North the flash floods etc...really caused havoc. Including the closure of the main railway station in Newcastle upon Tyne, train services halted due to landslides and the Tyne Bridge struck by lightening!

popperwell I agree with you wholeheartedly and what we were talking about yesterday was totally relevant to our thread wasn't it... it's why it's tough

I have this machine http://www.johnlewis.com/230962733/Product.aspx and for a beginner/learner it does everything I need it to do so I would second just a tiny machine. So far on mine I have made placemats, two dog beds, a carrier bag holder and children's bags. I'm stepping up my skills and managed to turn a coat into a skirt and plan on making all my clothes in the future.

That £49 spent on that machine has already paid for itself and will continue to save me money as I improve my skills.

That's quite a good price and could be quite handy as being short in height the shotening of trousers and sleeves are the two main jobs I have to do, I used to(and could cheat and go back to using that wunderweb stuff. I have a new iron I haven't used since I bought it. I am afraid it won't be used much...I'm not into ironing and when you are on your own...

I'll tell you really knew how to iron and did not seem to mind doing it of all people...my Dad.
