Another vote for cornflour white sauce...it doesn't ever separate if you use it in lasagne or cauliflower cheese! If you want it buttery, ad a lump of butter and beat it in!
Haven't been posting much anywhere recently as I've been so busy. Bit worried that my boss is loosing the plot, but she's agreed to take next week off, and I'm going to be cooking and making sushi all week (plus some other fishy things) for one of our busiest weeks of the year  Not bothered that she's not going to be there TBH as I think it may have caused much flapping, which hopefully won't happen now. Just have visions of making sushi for Wales until midnight for 9 days, as apparently 'big' boss got us a plug on local radio :rotfl: I'm also doing a sushi demo in the market on Tuesday, and just to add to the fun, Weds is the final class of my cooking workshops. I've also got an extra order for quiche on the market stall for Tuesday... Now does anyone know how to cut a lobster in half??? Lengthways of course?
I desperately need to do some cleaning (tomorrow?) Just delegated dinner to DD's BF. He is a trained chef...he's cooking some lambs liver we got on the market today. DD wants to try it, and I have loads of leftovers so dinner is pick and mix!

Haven't caught up yet but just wanted to give both fuddle and Kidcat a big hug and yes I went and light a candle....... thanks Mar forgot about that site.
Fuddle why on earth would you think we would think less of you because you were bankrupt, so what, its happened to plenty in the public eye and do they care narry at all, they brazen it out and carry on, I think its almost become a club many want to join so they can show they have lived it up, so its nothing at all to be embarrassed about. We are all on this site as we are struggling, either just keeping our heads above water but only just, or on payment plans or bankrupt - the only ones here doing well are ones that have gone through that time and out the other side so no-one and I mean no-one here would ever, ever have the right to look down on you as they have all been where you are ( ok before I am shot down there might be the odd person like Martin himself and others but not many).
Life can take some awful turns sometimes without you putting a foot wrong so it happened, the wheres and whyfors don't matter.......we are here to learn to manage, to cope with in our budgets what ever they are, if we all knew how we never would have found this site in the first place. Hold you head up girl - you are doing amazing - 6 mile walks to buy cheap food, just tell me how many others would be doing that for a start never mind all your other money saving ways...........you are a great person, we are all here for you :A
Kidcat I am speechless ( bet you never thought I could be) I thought your hubby was recovering from something physically serious. Is it just work in general you think he cannot do any more or just that job, if so could his firm find him some other position, might be a cut in income but would still be more than unemployment. You are a marvel dealing with what you have to with your children and your husband.....If its just he has got out of habit with working could he even go back part time for a few weeks to get used to it again ( sorry not sure if I ever knew how long he has been off)......:A

Fuddle its taken me till only last winter to actually teach hubby this after 30 odd years ( he is now 57):rotfl: so yours is learning far quicker. Last winter was first time he went to get a fleece when feeling chilly instead of turning heat on or up, and actually used the throws I have always had in living room ( ok not same ones obviously) but he never used any in past. He was a sight to behold snuggled down on couch fast asleep under a bright pink fleece we had bought for granddaughters useNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Fuddle: Of COURSE no-one thinks any less of you because of your probs. I guess the majority of the people on here have some sort of problem, be it money or blokes (((Kidcat))) or both!!
My husband lost his job because the owner committed suicide and at his age it would have been difficult to find another, so he set up his own business with the house as collateral. It went t*ts up and we were a hairs breath away from losing everything. Some businessmen thankfully bought it for virtually nothing and gave him a job of sorts - but at least we kept the house. The worry of that time will always be with us, but we survived, as you will I'm sure.
It makes us stronger in the long run - and my goodness, you lot on here are strong!!!!!!Normal people worry me.0 -
Fuddle - no-one here is going to think any less of you because of your financial past - it was very brave of you to tell us. Lacking motivation to do stuff sometimes happens to us all - how many times have you heard us say be Can't Be A**ed (CBA). And now you are on a better financial footing you know that you have the skills to do it all over again if you had to and how to avoid it in future as well - you are a survivor my girl and you'll find a way to make the heating more manageable before winter.
kidcat I suspect that many of us here have wondered if you would snap under the pressure whilst hoping that you wouldn't. Even when push came to shove the talk you had with DH was calm and sincere - much more constructive than a blazing row. I take my hat off to you - I certainly couldn't cope with what you have to.
Now then, homemade rhubarb fool is on the menu tonight and I'll even crumble ginger nuts over it if required - pass the spoons"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
SDG why don't you contact Jasper Fforde's publisher and ask if its OK to bring the cake? You can send a message to the man himself here although who knows if he has time to read them:
jasper@jasperfforde.com
Or if you like I'll find out his publicist's details as I work in publishing and have good contacts at Hodder.I also said I would join the local libraries book group and then worked out that the next one is on 12th July which is when I want to be in town getting my Thursday Next books signed by Jasper Fforde. I'll just have to get there early and hope that I'm back in time. I did think about baking a Dodo shaped cake for Jasper Fforde, but am scared it might come across as a bit strange and stalker like.0 -
Evening all.
OMG, don't I miss some stuff whilst at the office and at the lottie. I had no idea that there were so very many ways of making sauce. Actually, I had no idea there was sauce in lasagna.I don't have a whisk so I think I'll try the cornflour to minimalize lumpiness. However, it won't be lasagna for a few days as I didn't recall getting a pack of sausages out of the freezer and they were defrosted in the fridge, so am cooking them as we speak. Going to be comfort food tonight; sausages, beans and chips. Sophisticated cooks, please avert thine eyes.......:p TY all for your input.
When I cook sausages, as a singleton, I cook the whole pack at once so that I only have to wash up the grill once (and I wipe it out with crumpled newspaper first to reduce the amount of fat which gets into the drains). I treat my drains like a colicky baby and have even been known to sieve the washing-up water to stop bits of ick getting down there.
fuddle (((((sweetie)))))) why would we judge you for having been bankrupt? One of my besties was, now mercifully past the 6 year point, and I used to work for a debt advice outfit. It happens to all sorts of people, for all sorts of reasons, and many of us have thought; "There for the grace of (insert deity of choice) go I." Just remember that whatever doesn't destroy you makes you stronger.
((((kidkat))))) hun, you have a lot to shoulder in this world and I'm nor surprised your OH has you at the end of your rope, no matter how much you love him. My kid brother (in his forties now) is almost definately on the spectrum somewhere, probably a high-function Aspie and it's very difficult. Bro is clever and kind but there's just so much stuff that doesn't even register on his radar, mainly interpersonal stuff, that it can almost make you cry at times. Back in the 1970s, these things weren't diagnosed and the education system was totally clueless. Still is, in parts, judging by your experiences.
Well, I came home from w*rk, grabbed a quick cuppa and went to the lottie. Darlings, the weeds were appalling but the half a dozen ripe strawberries helped the process. I had my mobile switched off because I decided that I didn't want my hour or so of downtime disrupted, so just pootled along doing my good weeds-bad weeds triage (I compost most stuff but the stuff which comes thru viable goes to the green waste part of the tip along with the tonnes of leylandii which seem to be the main constituents of the green waste section). I garnish the pile with couch grass, bindweed, docks, horsetails and various other unspeakable organic horrors.
Did a dump run then home to cook tea. Gotta be up and at it tomorrow as have an early dental check-up, so fingers crossed for a clean bill of health.
OK, my plebian supper awaits. Mebbe catch ya laters, GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

fuddle
Big hugs. It need not be a secret. It has happened to loads of people. So please feel better about yourselves.
You have done your post-BR clean-ups?
By now I would expect some LLs to consider you if you can show that you have been paying rent regularly for this long.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
